€200k will ‘greatly enhance’ entrance to Listowel
THE €200,000 Listowel secured this week under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme will make for a transformation of the Bridge Road when it is combined with an allocation from Transport Infrastructure Ireland the Council has been holding since February.
Cathaoirleach of Listowel Municipal District Jimmy Moloney said the Council decided to hold the earlier fund in anticipation of this week’s allocation to make for a more targeted approach to improving safety on the Bridge Road and accommodating the looming Greenway.
“The funding will be used to enhance the entrance to Listowel on the Bridge Road and for the improving connectivity between Listowel Town Park and the Great Southern Greenway extension,” Cllr Moloney said.
Combined, the funds will help provide a new cycle lane through the back lane on the Bridge Road to the Neodata site, which is to become the trailhead for the GST; tackle a number of safety issues, including the entrance to Castleinch and the entrance to the Town Park; as well as the undergrounding of overhead wires.
“It will greatly improve the area on a number of fronts. Number one, it will improve safety, two it will link the Greenway to the town centre and three, it will greatly enhance the whole entrance to Listowel.”
Cllr Moloney said the Council is meanwhile hopeful of funding for the N69 on College Road from the TII: “With the bypass, the N69 will become a regional road and it is highly unlikely the TII will be handing it to the Council in the state it’s in.”
