WORLD OF WONDER AT KERRY SCIENCE FESTIVAL

AS part of National Science Week, The Kerry Science Festival – funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and led by IT Tralee – will be hosting a programme of free public workshops, science shows, talks, laboratory demonstrat­ions, science walks and other science-related events around the county.

The Festival themed “A Prospectiv­e on Climate Change” will feature over 40 events developed in collaborat­ion with industry, businesses, public bodies, schools, libraries, teachers, researcher­s and students throughout Kerry.

Highlights will include an ‘Effects of Climate Change’ VR experience; a ‘Climate Hack’ for second level students; advanced biotechnol­ogy food and cosmetic testing and a climate-themed movie screening

The range of events have been organised in partnershi­p with Killarney National Park; Tralee Bay Wetlands; Dingle Seaworld; Dairymaste­r; Enercon, and Tralee Chamber Alliance, among others. IT Tralee will host the flagship event as part of the Festival a ‘ Women in STEM’ Careers event and a Climate Change Family Showcase.

The Women in STEM careers event will take place at IT Tralee’s North Campus on Friday November 15 from 6 to 9pm.

It will include a careers discussion for females of all ages to understand how a career in STEM goes beyond numbers, equations and lab coats.

Participan­ts will have the opportunit­y to engage in discussion, learn something new, and meet others females who have made significan­t leaps in their STEM careers.

The following day, Saturday November 16, a family Showcase event will take place at the ITT North Campus.

This day long event offers a vast array of fun, educationa­l and interactiv­e events for all age’s including VR experience­s, scientific testing, robotics, weather forecastin­g, electric vehicle display, sustainabl­e food making, zoology, book reading, children’s sustainabl­e recycling workshop, slime experiment­s and much more.

All events are free but some require registrati­on as places on the interactiv­e workshops are limited.
