Dominic swaps Baltimore for Glin celebration

ACCLAIMED ACTOR CELEBRATES HALLOWEEN IN GLIN – AND CUTS THE RIBBON ON PARISH’S PLAYGROUND EXTENSION

DOMINIC West was never too far from the scariest of action when he played Baltimore police officer Jimmy McNulty in the acclaimed HBO series ‘ The Wire’ – but it seems the British actor isn’t afraid to throw himself into another scary role.

This time, Mr West – whose wife, Catherine, is from Glin – was surrounded by witches, devils, dragons, and skeletons as Glin Development held an official Halloween-themed opening for the locality’s recently completed playground extension.

Mr West was in the locality with his family for the Halloween break, and as Marie Fitzgerald explained, “We could not have asked for a more handsome ribbon cutter!”

“There was a fantastic turnout and the Development Committee would like to thank everyone who turned up for the opening,” she told The Kerryman. “Dominic was home for Halloween with his family, and he very kindly obliged by officially opening the playground.

“We have to thank Dominic and his family for taking time out from their break to help out.

“Special thanks as well goes to all the children who were there in their fantastic costumes. Our independent adjudicators had a very difficult task indeed to pick a winner.”

Marie explained that Fr Tom Crawford blessed the playground and offered some words of advice to the children about appreciating the wonderful facilities in Glin.

West Limerick Resources part funded the project, and representing them on the day were Elaine Dillon and Amee Grigg. Local Councillor John Sheahan, a driving force behind the initiative, was also present and spoke at the event, as did Glin Development Chairperson John Anthony Culhane.

“We would like to thank everyone who had a part in the project and those who helped to make the opening the wonderful event that it was,” Marie added. “We must pay a special thanks to Jim Lynch and William Brouder, and to brothers Joe and Denis Mulcahy CES, who keep Glin Park and playground in excellent condition. Thanks as well to Adams Garage for their sponsorship”
