The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Final shop window for Kerry management

-

ONE swallow never made a summer, and one big club performance doesn’t make an inter-county footballer, but the Kerry senior management will surely be some of the most interested spectators in Austin Stack Park on Sunday.

Having parsed the Championship just gone, Peter Keane and his selectors will surely be scouting for a couple of new additions to the Kerry panel for 2020, and what better place to run the rule over potential players than the county senior championship final.

Last year Darragh Moynihan, Gavin O’Brien, Jack Sherwood and Tommy Walsh performed so well in the county championship that it was hard for the new Kerry management not to take a closer look at all four in the environment of the Kerry squad, and there are a few more players who have surely piqued the interest of the

Kerry management in this year’s campaign.

Head of that list must be Paudie Clifford of East Kerry and Tony Brosnan from Dr Crokes, both of whom have been in brilliant form with their teams.

Clifford has been play-maker-inchief on the ‘forty’ for East Kerry, and the general consensus is that he merits a call-up to the Kerry panel in the short-term at least.

Brosnan falls into that category, too, although there were soundings to get him involved last year, but Dr Crokes run to the All-Ireland Club Final was less than helpful.

Michael Potts, who played with the Kerry U-20s this year, is in line for a recall to the senior squad, while East Kerry duo Liam Kearney and Darragh Roche can strengthen their case for a Kerry call with a big performance in Sunday’s county final.
