GUI release 2020 fixtures

-

THE Golfing Union of Ireland have released their 2020 fixtures this past week but unfortunately there’s nothing much of interest for Kerry golfers as none of the County’s clubs are set to host any major championships.

However, among the national championships are the Irish Close Amateur Championship played this year at Ballybunion in August, which moves forward to May next year and will be played at Rosapenna in Donegal from May 9th to 13th while also in is May, the Irish Seniors Amateur Open Championship will take place at Castlewarden in Kildare from the 22 to the 24.

Lahinch which hosted the Irish Open Professional Championship this year, will play host to the Palmer Cup in 2020 from July 3 to 5.

This event is of course the “Ryder Cup” of university golf between Europe and the USA and was last played on these shores in 2012 at Royal Portrush while also in July of next year, the Irish Seniors Close Championship takes place at Lisburn.

The Irish Amateur Strokeplay Championship will be played at Galway from August 13 to 16 while also in August Ballykisteen will host the Interprovincial Championships from the 26th to 28th.

Finally, the Irish finals of the Cups and Shields will next year be contested at Donegal GC (Murvagh) from September 18 to 20.

On the provincial, the Munster Strokeplay Championship is at Cork Golf Club on May 2nd and 3rd, the Munster Mid-amateur is at Nenagh on June 20 and the Munster semi-finals and finals of the Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell Shields are at Fermoy on July 18 and 19.

The Munster Seniors Championship is at Mallow on July 28 and 29 while Tralee plays host to the Munster semi-finals and final of the Irish Mixed Foursomes on August 8th.

Killarney will host the provincial semi-finals of finals of the Irish Senior Cup, Junior Cup and Barton Shield on August 22nd and 23rd while the Munster finals of the All-Ireland inter-club fourball (Michael Cashman Cup) will be at Kanturk on August 30.
