VILLAGE FESTIVAL

Festival no.27 took place over the Bank Holiday weekend. Moyvane Developmen­t Associatio­n would like to thank all those who helped out in any way over the weekend. Thanks to our patrons and sponsors who have supported us down through the years. Thanks also to The Community Sports Hall Committee, The Marian Hall Committee and Fr Kevin for the use of the various facilities over the weekend. Finally we would like to thank all those who supported our fund raising raffle which took place in conjunctio­n with the festival. Thanks to The Connacht Hotel, Galway, The Killarney Oaks, and Holly’s Gala who very generously sponsored the beautiful prizes. LADIES FOOTBALL CELEBRATIO­NS

Scartaglen Ladies Football Club are having a Celebrator­y Night and Medal Presentati­on at Ballygarry House Hotel Tralee on Saturday night November 16th. The Club are celebratin­g their 30th anniversar­y this year so it should make for a great night out. Tickets are E30 each for adults, children Under 16 E15 and are available from Anna at (087) 6975717, from Hughes Bar in Cordal or from any member of the committee.

MASS FOR THE HOLY SOULS

There will be mass for the Holy Souls in Scartaglen Church on Monday night November 11 at 8pm.

HANDED DOWN

“Going to the well for water” is the title of a presentati­on being made by Maire O Keeffe as part of the Handed Down lecture series at Scartaglen Heritage Centre on Saturday night next November 9th commencing at 8pm. Maire will relate stories and memories about musicians and events as she progressed from student to radio presenter and fiddle teacher. Going to the well for water is the first tune she ever learned and she will share her own story with all on the night.

One of County Kerrys finest fiddle players ,she will share a wealth of memories including finding a long lost cassette of a night playing in New York in 1995 with Johnny O Leary and a nephew of Denis Murphy called Andy Horan who played the flute. Expect more rare treasures from Maire’s collection on the night including the famous Cibeal Festival held in Kenmare during the 1980’s.

Special guests on Saturday night next are: a group of young musicians from Kilcummin and Scartaglen, a group from Kileedy/ Ashford/Castlemaho­n Co. Limerick,

Kealan O Connor from Beaufort, the singer will be Brid O Shea from Currow accompanie­d by her brother Micheal as well as Mick Culloty, Rhona O Driscoll from Kenmare and Con Herbert, Kileedy. It should be another great nights entertainm­ent.

RAMBLING HOUSE

The next Rambling House session in the Heritage Centre, Scartaglen will be on Monday next November 11 commencing at 8.30pm (please note new starting time for the winter season). As ever admission is free with a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night. Everyone welcome.

SUNDAY NIGHT DANCING

The Mike Condon Band will provide the entertainm­ent for the Sunday night dancing at Scartaglen Heritage Centre on Sunday next November 10th. Dancing as usual from 9pm to 11.30pm.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

Janice and Moss Carrig will be present for an Afternoon of Prayer in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Scartaglen on Sunday November 17 which will commence as usual with The Rosary at 2.30pm. Everyone welcome.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

The church gate collection this weekend is the annual diocesan collection in aid of Irish Church Commission­s and Agencies.

CHURCH FINANCE

The Finance Committee has advised that the total raised from fund raising events to date has been €2900 which includes €1285 from the Community Poker Classic, the Community Bingo €550, the Clothes Collection €550 and the Bank Holiday events €515.

The Committee would like to express its sincere gratitude and appreciati­on to all those who donated cash, books and who took part in the events or helped in the running of these events.

Your contributi­ons made it possible to complete many worthwhile projects this year including the replacemen­t of the gas heaters with electric heaters, the upgrading of the church radio system . There are still some books available from the book sale for as little as €2 each or 3 for €5.

CÚRSAI EAGLAISE

The Rosary will continue to be prayed on Tuesday evenings at 7pm during the month of November for the Holy Souls. You can still write the names of your beloved dead on a card provided and place it on the Tree of Remembranc­e in the Church. The dead will be remembered throughout the month of November.

YOGA CLASSES

Sinead Griffin will be running a course of Yoga Classes in Tarbert Community Centre commencing Thursday November 21 for 5 weeks from 7pm to 8.15pm each night. The beginners yoga course is perfect for those completely new to yoga or for those who would like to refresh and deepen their knowledge of yoga. You can learn the basic postures, breath work and develop a great yoga foundation.

Yoga can help relieve stress and anxiety, build strength and improve flexibilit­y and clear an overactive mind. Booking for this course is essential.
