Sem just see off Green in Group D Corn Uí Mhuirí cracker

-

Group A

Hamilton HS Bandon 1-8 Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig 0-7

BANDON’S Richard O’Sullivan got the crucial goal to settle a tight contest between two of the overall favourites.

Mercy Mounthawk 6-19 PS Chorca Dhuibhne 6-9

SIX goals and still on the losing side? You won’t see it often. A dead rubber as both sides are already gone, but a brilliant spectacle and both sides can be proud of how they bowed out. STATE of Play: Bandon top the group and are the frontrunners for the competition. Ballincollig are second and also through.

Group B

DLS Macroom 5-14 SP Sliabh Luachra 2-12 Clonakilty 3-10 HS Clonmel 0-9

STATE of Play: Rathmore’s first defeat, but scoring difference keeps them at the top of the table.

Clonakilty take second place and a quarter-final berth by virtue of a good win here.

Group C

St Flannans Ennis 11-14 Skibbereen CS 4-7

ST Flannans cruised into the quarter-finals with a devastating display against Skibbereen. They led by 4-7 to 0-1 at the break and were never in the slightest bother. Diarmuid Cahill and 4-6 and Mark McInerney and Killian O’Connor claimed hat-tricks.

State of Play: St. Francis Rochestown top the group but as it stands, could lose five starting players for the quarter-finals after 16 minor players and seven mentors from the Douglas club were issued bans after illegally fielding in a lower graded competition in Cork. Right now, St. Flannans, who are also in the latter stages of the Harty Cup, are the side to watch out for.

Group D

St Brendans 1-17 Tralee CBS 2-13

THIS was a cracker and showed how much both sides have improved along the way.

With Mark Cooper doing a great defensive job on danger-man Seán Quilter, it was the Sem who went into a 0-8 to 0-4 lead.

Both sides were guilty of some stray passing, but the Sem were that little bit more clinical.

Tralee had already been unlucky not to goal after good work by Conor Hayes, but the ball flashed just wide. However, Cian Purcell did goal and the Sem’s lead was cut to 0-9 to 1-5 at the break.

They had stretched that lead out to five clear, but a brilliant turn and shot by Quilter helped reverse the flow of play and it was

Tralee who led by 2-1 to 1-12.

The Sem, however, showed great composure to nail five points on the trot, with a late free by Tralee’s Fergal O’Brien not enough.

Cooper and Eoghan O’Sullivan were outstanding for the Sem, who had 11 different scorers, while O’Brien, Purcell, and Armin Heinrich impressed for Tralee.

IS Killorglin 6-14 Coláiste Chríost Rí 3-8

ANOTHER dead rubber, but good to see a young IS Killorglin side close out their campaign with a convincing win.
