Women uphold one great Irish tradition

MAKING THE MOST OF THE TIME OF YEAR AS PARKER’S PUB IN KILFLYNN PULLS OUT ALL THE STOPS FOR ANOTHER MEMORABLE WOMEN’S CHRISTMAS

-

IT’S not everywhere that Christmas is given an extra day of celebration, but in Kilflynn that’s exactly what one expects as Women’s Christmas is celebrated in style at Parker’s Pub.

Such is the popularity of Women’s Christmas around these parts that it gets celebrated 48 hours earlier as over 90 women from around the parish and beyond made Parker’s their port of call on Saturday to enjoy a special occasion.

Every year proprietors’ Mike and Geraldine Parker like to pull out all the stops for the evening as music and dance is enjoyed in what is a perfect homage to a unique

Irish tradition.

In fact, Parker’s Pub has managed to create a tradition of its own in recent years, ever since it decided to make Women’s Christmas part and parcel of its festive entertainment plans.

The pub is turned into a designated shrine to Women’s Christmas on a night that well and truly belongs to the ladies. Some fine food was provided by Karen Tuite of Prims and at the heart of the entertainment was well known entertainer, Roel Villones.

Roel made sure that space on the dance floor was always going to be at a premium as he played a stack of favourite and familiar hits from Neil Diamond to The Bellamy Brothers. Mike Parker said the tradition of celebrating Women’s Christmas in his pub goes back over 20 years.

“It’s always been a great occasion here in the bar and it’s important to keep these traditions alive,” he said.

“Outside of parts of Limerick and north Kerry, there’s not that many places that celebrate it. Geraldine and Karen put a big effort into decorating the place.

“We get great crowds every year and we would like to thank everyone for coming and making it such a memorable night.”
