BEST WISHES

Best wishes of Health and Happiness are extended to Noel Fennell of Well Street who retired just before Christmas from his work as a mechanic at Kennelly’s Garage in the village. Noel served over 50 years at the Garage beginning his career as an apprentice in October 1968. Moving from home in Tarmons to live with his Aunt the late Elizabeth (Lizzy) Hanrahan R.I.P. was a big change, but one he adapted to very well. Starting out as an apprentice at that time he would work most of the week at the garage but would also have to attend the then Technical School (as it was known then) in Listowel a day a week as part of the apprentice programme often cycling the eight miles in all kinds of weather. Bally at that time was a booming little village and the garage at that time had three men including Noel operating as mechanics and while cars were not as plentiful as they are now, the majority of their work at that time was on farm machinery, which was entering a new era with the introduction of high powered tractors, mowing bars, hay turners, bailers and silage harvesters etc. Then as we entered the 70’s with the boom of work
