Getting fit for New Year with RTÉ’s big fitness show
Operation Transformation walk taking place in Town Park on Saturday, January 18
LISTOWEL is getting walking for Operation Transformation as one of two venues in the county taking part in the annual national fitness campaign - that runs in tandem with the RTÉ programme.
Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership, with the support of Sport Ireland, has joined up with Operation Transformation for the National Walk Day on Saturday, January 18.
The national event, now in its tenth year, has always had a great turn out with thousands of people donning their walking shoes and getting active across a massive range of venues. This year, it is Listowel and Tralee within The Kingdom where the action will take place. Both walks will take place at 11am to coincide with the official national start time.
The Listowel Walk is a 5km route within Listowel Town Park (Eircode: V31 VK13). The Tralee walk will meanwhile be based at the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre (Eircode: V92 HH57) and follows a 7km route along the old tow path of Tralee Ship Canal.
Both walks are suitable for people of all ages and abilities, organisers said.
Hundreds of Kerry walkers are expected to get involved as Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership chair Jimmy Deenihan described it as a great way to get started on a fit 2020.
“This is the perfect opportunity to shed those holiday cobwebs and to get started on new year’s resolutions. It’s a chance to face new challenges in the company of many others,” Jimmy said.
“The Operation Transformation Walk provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to get the year off to an active start.”
Sports Co- Ordinator with Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership Córa Carrigg added: “The day would not be possible without the support of so many organisations who come together...An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, Kerry County Council, Listowel Community and Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre and the special team of volunteers.”
