East Kerry All Stars are shining as bright as ever ten years on
EAST KERRY GAA ALL STARS 2019
THE East Kerry Board is again delighted to be associated with the very successful East Kerry All Stars awards which recognise and honour players for their commitment and performances in the East Kerry senior championship the Dr O’Donoghue Cup.
Were it not for our loyal sponsors over the last 10 years it would not be possible to continue with these awards. We are very fortunate to have The Kerryman newspaper Tralee and The Aquila Club at the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney, two top Kerry companies joining forces to honour our players and giving our championship a greater status.
The East Kerry Board acknowledge and sincerely thank the brilliant sponsorship and support from General Manager Siobhan Murphy and Sports Editor Paul Brennan from The Kerryman and Patrick O Donoghue and Eamonn Quigley from The Aquila Club Gleneagle Hotel.
The 2019 Dr O’Donoghue Cup competition gave us some great individual and team performances with the final a top encounter between two great Killarney club rivals, Killarney Legion and Dr Crokes serving up a classic which had everything you’d like to see in championship football and Killarney Legion went on to lift the
Dr O’Donoghue Cup for the time in 43 years.
On Saturday night players from various clubs in the district are been acknowledged for their stand out performances in games throughout the Dr O’Donoghue senior championship. I congratulate the 24 short listed players and wish them the very best of luck. The 15 East Kerry recipients will be revealed on the night as will the East Kerry Senior and U-21 Player of the year.
The Fr Galvin Intermediate Cup was also well contested in 2019 with some great games. Listry and Gneeveguilla giving us a top class final, with Gneeveguilla collecting the Fr Galvin Cup at the final whistle. I congratulate the five nominees listed for the Intermediate Player of the Year award and I wish them the very best of luck. The recipient will be revealed on the night.
Heartiest congratulations to Billy Doolan from Kilcummin who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and Jerry O’Sullivan from Firies the East Kerry Person of the Year award recipient.
Both are most deserving of their awards in recognition of the decades of service to GAA affairs in their club, district and county. A great occasion is promised on Friday night when we get together with players, club officials and supporters to acknowledge and award our players and also to recognise the contributions made first to the GAA over many years by the people of our community. I express my gratitude to all clubs that have supported these awards in the past and will again support the event this year.
Finally, sincere thanks to everyone who supported our games and our cultural events throughout the year. I look forward to meeting you all on Friday night when the 2019 East Kerry all Star Team will be revealed at the Gala Banquet in the Brehon Hotel at 8pm.
