New sponsor for Juvenile Classic

-

NEW sponsors have come on board for the biggest event of the year at Tralee Track, the unraced juvenile classic.

In latter years, the event has been sponsored by the Killarney insurance company, Gallivan, Murphy, Hooper, Dolan, and taking over for 2020 is a company well known to all greyhound people - Greyhound and Pet World, of Abbeyfeale.

This new sponsorship is a perfect fit for the Tralee classic, which year after year attracts greyhounds that go on to make national headlines. The man in charge at Greyhound and Pet World, Dominic Magnone, runs a great show, as anybody who visits the company’s very impressive stand at the national coursing meeting in Clonmel will know.

Speaking at the launch of the classic at the Oakview venue last week, Magnone said that he was thrilled to be associated with one of the country’s top events and one so close to the company’s home base at that.

Declan Dowling, the Sales and

Operations Manager at Tralee, said it was a great boost for the juvenile classic to have such a strong sponsor as Greyhound and Pet World coming on board. “Dominic, Kathleen and Liam at Greyhound and Pet World have been marvellous sponsors of greyhound racing in Munster for many years and I would urge all greyhound owners and trainers to patronise them in appreciation of that,” he said.

The classic starts on Friday, February 21, and official and unofficial trials take place on the three preceding Fridays (for bookings phone 061448057). Entries close on Tuesday, February 18.

The classic, which was first run in 2007, is over the 525yds trip and, assuming the entry of 48 fills, there will be a winner’s purse of €15,000. Last year’s winner in the most thrilling of finals was Toolmaker Daddy.

• A novice sweepstake for ON2 class over 325yds starts at Tralee this Saturday night and it will be followed by a novice sweepstake for ON3 class over 525yds on Friday, January 31.
