PHECC

(Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council) will hold a Cardiac First Responders Course in The Marian Hall on Saturday, January 25 from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Learn CPR & AED skills for FREE. Courses taught locally by PHECC accredited instructor­s through the National Ambulance Service training centre, in conjunctio­n with the Irish Heart Foundation. Slots are still available. HANDED DOWN

This Saturday night January 18th is the date for the first Handed Down presentati­on of 2020 in Scartaglen Heritage Centre. The main feature of the evening is a presentati­on by fiddler Aidan Connolly entitled “The Cronin Brothers from Reaboy”. This will be a special on the Cronin Brothers, Johnny fiddle and box ; Mick flute and whistle. A large amount of rare unseen and unheard materials will be used by Aidan on the night . The Dan O Connell Memorial Award will be presented also on the night and last years winners “The Rising “band from Killarney have chosen P.J. Teahan as this years recipient for his contributi­on to Sliabh Luachra music . Full line up is as follows Guest musicians John Daly , Con Moynihan, Denis O Connor, Thomas Barrett from “The Rising” ,Singer Nollaig Ní Laoire - Oireachtas Corn Uí Riada winner. COURSING

Castleisla­nd Coursing Club will stage their annual Island Cup meeting at Cahill Park, Tullig, Castleisla­nd on this Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend (January 17-19 inclusive). This meeting was staged for years on the October Bank Holiday weekend but due to the late start of the current coursing season, the Committee had to change to the above revised dates. Anyhow all is set for three great days of coursing with the feature as always being The John ,Thady and Dave Cahill Memorial Island Cup. In addition there will be Derby Trial Stake (64) and an Oaks Trial Stake (32), an All Aged Bitch
