Comedian Julie Jay bringing new show to Blasket

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

COMEDIAN Julie Jay has a list of achievements as long as my arm and next week, she will be ticking another first off her list as she prepares to grace the stage of the Blasket Bar Comedy Club.

A comic who has taken the Irish comedy scene by storm in recent months and years, Julie has many impressive accolades under her belt, including being named as the winner of the Forbidden Fruit Comedy Search 2017 while also performing at all major festivals - Body and Soul, Alltogether Now, Electric Picnic and Vodafone.

Talking of achievements and ringing endorsements, Julie said that it doesn’t get better than receiving praise for her work from the one and only Tommy Tiernan.

“The brightest and funniest thing I’ve seen for a long, long time,” is how Tiernan described Julie’s comedy.

Now, as her new show ‘Julie Really Love Me’ takes flight, Julie will be performing in The Blasket Bar on the night of Thursday January 23.

“It will be my first time ever performing there. I’m really looking forward to it. It should be great craic. This

will be the second date on my new tour so I’m hoping that it will be a brilliant night,” said Julie on Friday, speaking to The Kerryman.

As for what kind of comedy people can expect on the night, Julie said that most of the comedy is based on stories from her own life.

“Generally it’s all based on stories from my own life. It’s about my journey to self-love and acceptance and all that. It’s mostly going to be dark and satirical stuff and it’s mostly obviously about relationships and that kind of thing. I’m really looking forward to getting down there and performing,” she continued.

As for support acts on the night, it is not yet confirmed but Julie said that she is hoping to have her husband - hugely successful Irish comedian Fred Cooke joining her on the night but right now, she can’t quite guarantee the scheduling will work out.

This will be the first Comedy Club night of 2020 in the Tralee bar; tickets for the show are just €13 online and are available through the link on the Blasket Bar’s Facebook page.

Otherwise, tickets can be purchased on the night or in advance from the Tech Co shop in Tralee.
