1. TRALEE PREPS FOR FIRST CHINESE NEW YEARS

TRALEE is just a few days out from celebratin­g its very first Chinese New Years festival which promises to deliver a number of events from January 24 right through to February 2.

Events that will take place over the festival include a traditiona­l ‘Lions & Dragon Dances’ in the town centre, a 1000 lights ceremony and a taste of Asia food market.

2. NATIONAL WALK DAY IN TRALEE & LISTOWEL

A NATIONAL walk organised by the Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnershi­p has teamed up with Operation Transforma­tion for a national walk that will take place from two locations in Kerry on Saturday January 18.

The Tralee walk will take place from Tralee Bay Wetlands while the Listowel walk will be leaving from the Listowel Town Park; both walks will leave at 11am.

3. SWIMATHON IN AID OF BRAVE AMBER

A 24hr Swimathon will be held in the Tralee Sports Complex on Saturday January 18 at 3pm; the event will be in aid of a little girl, Amber, who is battling cancer.

4. ROSE HOTEL TO HOLD CHARITY 80’S NIGHT

HAVE you got your tickets yet for the upcoming 80’s night being held in the Rose Hotel in Tralee?

The night, which will take place on Friday January 24 will raise much needed funds for two very worthy charities - Comfort for Chemo and the Donal Walsh Foundation.

Tickets will cost just €20 per person and are still on sale from the Rose Hotel receptioio­n or by calling the hotel on (066) 7199100.

5. CONCERT IN BENNER’S IN AID OF SIOBHAIN

A FUNDRAISIN­G concert will be held in Benner’s Hotel on the night of Friday January 31 in aid of Tralee woman Siobhain Maher Sequeval.

Playing on the night will be bands such as Midnight Café, Zedz Dead, Renovator and Brightside while DJ Alan will provide music after until late.

Tickets for this event will cost €15 in the run up to the event (on sale in the Cearnóg, Benners Hotel, Baily’s Corner or ‘That’s Perfect’ or €20 on the door.

6. TRALEE MUSICAL SOCIETY ‘MR & MRS’ EVENT

TRALEE Musical Society will hold their ‘Strictly Come Dancing Mr & Mrs’ event in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Saturday February 8 in what surely promises to be a great night out for all.

Tickets for this event are on sale for just €20 and are available by contacting the Tralee Musical Society through their Facebook page.

7. ‘NO PLACE LIKE ROME’ IN SIAMSA TÍRE

THE Castlegreg­ory Amateur Dramatics Society will perform their newest production ‘No Place Like Rome’ in Siamsa Tíre next month.

This production will be staged on February 1 at 7pm; tickets for this show will cost between €10/€15 while a family of four will cost €45.

8. KERINS O’RAHILLYS 10K/5K IN TRALEE

JANUARY in Tralee means that the annual Kerins O’Rahillys 19k and 5k fun run cannot be too far away.

This years run will take place on Sunday January 26 and will once more set off from the Tralee clubhouse at 11am; there will be a finishers medal for all those taking part.

Registrati­on is €20 for the 5k and €25 for the 10k. This can be done on the morning between 8am and 10:30am.

9. FOIL, ARMS & HOG SET TO ENTERTAIN INEC

THE brilliant comedic trio that is ‘Foil, Arms & Hog’ are set to return to Killarney next month in what is sure to another sell-out show for the three young Dublin comedians.

The brilliant group will perform in Killarney on February 6 in the INEC.

Tickets for the show are currently on sale for €33.20 from the INEC website.

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends? There are five parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel, Inch Beach and the Tralee junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old.

People can register and print off their run barcodes at parkrun. ie.
