Kerry P&B Association appoints new officers
NEW officers have been appointed to the Kerry P&B Association of New York, representing seemingly every corner of the Kingdom.
Though born in the US, the Association’s new president, Gerard O’Donoghue, was raised in Fossa and is a former student of the Sem. The family returned to New York where – along with his wife, Maureen – Gerard has raised three children: Brendan, Deirdre and Conor. Gerard is Vice-President of the family business GPJ O’Donoghue Contracting, as well as a certified public accountant. Gerard took over from outgoing president Frank O’Keeffe at the AGM.
“Gerry brings many talents to our Association and has voiced his determination to lead the Kerry Association Of New York on its established path of greatness,” PRO Maurice Brick told The Kerryman.
Among the other officers appointed at the recent AGM were Trustees William Lucid (Castleisland), Mary Cronin (Ballydesmond) and Pat Scanlon (NY); Auditors Eileen Collins (NY), Maura Barrett (Lixnaw) and Eileen Murphy (NY); Warden Eileen Murphy (NY); PRO Maurice Brick (Gorta Dubha); Chaplain Fr Brendan Fitzgerald (Killarney); Recording Secretary Mary Daly (Rathmore); Installation Officer Mike Purtill (Tarbert); Vice-President Patrice Buckley (Killarney and NY); Financial Secretary Mike Kelly (Killarney). Kenmare’s Gerry O’Shea will, meanwhile, provide his expertise as official Kerry P&A historian.
Next up in a major way for the Association is, of course, St Patrick’s Day.
“Hard work and dedication contribute to this glorious output and we look forward with pride to marching up 5th Avenue on St Patrick’s Day,” Maurice said. “Our annual Kerry Golf Tournament has to its credit more than $100,000 raised for various charities since its inception, and our scholarship function dispensed $14,000 to the children of members this year.”
