Supplements key to great skin, hair & nails

- By CLAIRE By MARY O’DONNELL

WE all would love great skin and hair! So what can we do to help get us there?

As a pharmacist, the best recommendation is a supplement as optimising your hair, skin or nail growth is the most proven way to achieve results.

We in Leahys Pharmacy have three great supplement options.

Our own brand product for Skin, Hair & Nails which is available for a budget €9.76,

Perfectil from the Vitabiotics range at €14.45 and new to the market Sona Beaute Active at €24.94

All are designed to provide the correct nutrients for your hair, skin and nails to grow or to maintain what you have if that’s a concern, which it can be in later life.

You can avail of a 10% discount off any of the skin supplements in either our Oakpark or Ballinorig pharmacies by mentioning Mary’s column!

A friend of mine is a hand model. I kid you not and if you saw her hands you would see why. She tells a story of one day after a manicure, she nearly crashed admiring her beautiful digits on the steering wheel.

Getting your nails just right is equivalent to that perfect blow-dry.

When I first went to New York I could not get over how many nails bars there was and how everyone went on a regular basis for a treat.

Fast forward 20 years and Kerry is no different; at Christmas time there was not a nail appointment to be got .

I think it is the ultimate in grooming. I love admiring nails wherever I go and the artists that do such great work.

The choices are many: the two week manicure is very popular and shine is very hard to beat. You leave with perfectly manicured nails that will last for two weeks and your nails are completely dry before you leave, ideal for the busy female.

There are two types of gel nails, hard and soft and the hard gel can be made into a nail extension. Nail extensions are artificial nails that extend past your natural nail.

At the moment a lot of people give their nails a break and concentrate on getting their natural nails in good condition.

I recently went to Tara the nail technician in Leahy’s for a manicure and I was very impressed with the treatment I got. The cuticle work was meticulous and I feel it has got me back into using cuticle oil nightly.

This time of year cuticles can get very dry and using a good oil can do wonders if you’re trying to get your nails to grow.

Another tip is to have hand creams in different places, maybe near the kitchen sink, your handbag and in the car so that the hands can stay protected in this harsh weather.

Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Hand Cream is a natural, rich and luxurious hand cream. A deep nourishing blend of coconut, marula and certified organic rosehip oil, it softens and protects dry or chapped skin, providing a natural barrier against moisture loss.

With a scent of sweet orange, amber and vanilla. An intensive hand cream which sinks in rapidly, delivering intensive hydration and antioxidant protection for super smooth, super soft hands. Non greasy, it quickly absorbs into hands.

Mavala is a great brand when it comes to nail care and hardening treatments. The secret is to use nail hardeners on a regular basis to see results.

‘Nailtiques’ is also a recommended brand that is available in salons .

I have a treat for you this week. Would you like a two week manicure with Tara from Leahy’s? All you have to do is tell me why you need this treat.

You can email me at mary@leahyspharmacytralee.ie.

Tara is also available for a wide selection of treatments from extensions to refills to the basic file and paint with the comfort of free parking.
