St Senans 0 Killorglin 37

A BRILLIANT first half from Killorglin laid the foundation for a superb victory away to Clare side St Senans last Saturday. The visitors completely dominated possession in the first half and soon began to make their presence felt on the scoreboard.

Shogie O’Sullivan was unstoppable and crossed the line three times for an early hat trick whilst Jamie O’Leary struck for try number 4 in the corner after a clever box kick from Jack Evans.

Misfortune struck for Killorglin when they lost Jack Coffey to a hamstring injury. The visitors had travelled to the game with only 15 players and had to see out the remainder of the game with only 14 on the field. It mattered little as Killorglin continued to boss proceedings and Chris Scannell struck for try number 5 on the stroke of half time.

Killorglin continued in similar fashion in the second half with James Byrne striking twice to seal a comprehensive win. Killorglin are now through to the quarter final of the competition.

Listowel-Tralee 17 Muskerry 19

THIS was a game that could have gone either way. Listowel-Tralee played with a stiff breeze in the first half but probably tried to keep the ball in hand a bit much when in their own half of the field. They were punished when Muskerry found space on the outside and scores a fortuitous try in the corner.

Listowel-Tralee upped the intensity for the remainder of the half and ably led by Jerome O’Rourke, Denis and Kian Dowling, they soon got their reward. Some superb interplay saw space open up for Caoimhin Finn who scorched over in the corner. Seamus Lyne converted from the touch line and Listowel-Tralee nudged into a 7-5 lead. Further Listowel-Tralee pressure saw Lyne presented with a penalty opportunity and he duly obliged to give his side a 10-5 lead at half time.

Listowel-Tralee started the second half in flying fashion when Emil Beauseigneur ran 50 metres for an excellent try. Lyne added the conversion to push Listowel-Tralee 17-5 ahead. Muskerry were made of stern stuff and came at Listowel-Tralee in waves but outstanding defense from Bjorn Destiny Nana, Igor Kwas and Barry Foley helped stem the tide.

Listowel-Tralee’s discipline slipped they started to concede needless penalties. Muskerry made ground and eventually scored a converted try to reduce the lead to 17-12. Soon afterwards Muskerry scored another converted try to take the lead for the first time in the game. Listowel-Tralee tried hard to retake the lead but the Muskerry defence stood firm and they escaped with the win.

MUNSTER U-16 PLATE GROUP 1

Sundays Well 36 RCD 26

RCD suffered defeat to a well drilled Sundays Well side at their home venue in Cork last Saturday. Sundays Well started the brighter and had two tries scored before Corca Dhuibhne began to find their feet.

The west Kerry outfit finally began to play some good rugby and got back into the game when Cuán O’Muircheartaigh crashed over the line to narrow the gap to 5 points. Corca Dhuibhne continued to press for the equalizing score but on the stroke of a halftime a spilled ball on Sundays Well’s line lead to a heart breaking concession of a try under the posts.

Corca Dhuibhne moved Jimi Fenton to 9 and Cathal Galvin to 10 at half time and began to use the stiff cross wind to good effect. The football skills of the Kerry team now came to the fore with Galvin pinning the Cork team back with precise and varied kicking. Tries from Ronán O Beaglaoich and the excellent Dylan Hutchison followed, before Galvin followed up on his own kick with a wonderful individual effort.

Sundays Well started to dominate the line-out and made it difficult for Corca Dhuibhne to gain a foothold in opposition territory. Some sniping attacks saw the Cork side score some late tries and seal the victory over a game but tired Corca Dhuibhne outfit.

Corca Dhuibhne’s best on the day were Cathal Galvin, Mikey Devine, and the ever improving Dylan Hutchinson.
