Park move up to second in the table

-

AC Athletic 1 Killorglin 3

KILLORGLIN got their league campaign back on track with a workmanlike performance against AC Athletic which yielded three points.

Audie Dunlea put the Launesiders a goal up inside the first minute, but AC got back on level terms with a goal from Sean Leahy and it was 1-1 at the break. Early in the second half Killorglin thought they had taken the lead when Lee Carey scored but he was ruled offside

However, the prolific goalscorer was not to be denied when Paddy Collins dropped in a great ball into the box and Carey applied a sublime finish. If Killorglin keep the momentum going they could still challenge for a place in the league final.

While AC Athletic are struggling this season their B team is going very well in Division 2B and they could yet win silverware before the season is over.

DENNY DIVISION 1A

Atletico Ardfert 0 The Park 4

THE Park moved up to second in the table after an easy win over Athletico Ardfert. Adam Ward, Aaron Ward John Ward and David Oba scored for the Tralee side. While they are well in the hunt for a place in the league final they will be losing a few key players to the Kerry under 19 squad and that will weaken their side considerably in a few weeks’ time.

DENNY DIVISION 1B

Windmill United 3 Killorglin B 2

WINDMILL United seemed to be coasting to victory in this game leading 3-0 going into added time, but Killorglin came with a late rally with two quick-fire goals but the clock ran out on them and Windmill United took the spoils.

Killorglin had a strong gale behind them and they dominated the opening half hour but were unable to breach a strong Killorglin defence. Eventually the Blennerville side went ahead in the 30th minute with the opportunistic goal by Jason McCoy who found the net with an accurately measured shot from distance.

They doubled their lead in the 57th minute when the Killorglin the keeper found it hard to deal with a high ball swirling in the strong wind and Jason McCoy ran on to the loose ball and found the net.

Windmill seemed to be home and dry when Paudie Bailey scored their third goal in the 77th minute. However, Killorglin gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Sean Costello scored in added time. A bit of a confrontation then resulted in a player from each side being sent off.

Sub Manus Gallagher scored another goal for Killorglin in the final seconds of added time but it was too little too late and Windmill took the three league points.

Ballymac Celtic 1 Classic FC ‘B’ 0

BALLYMAC Celtic move up to a more challenging position in the league table after a good win over Classic FC

It was a great three points considering they have lost three of their best players Dwyer Tobin, Jack O’Shea and Vinny Murphy to immigration. Between them last season they scored an amazing 51 goals.

Played in difficult weather conditions this was a very robust game with a player from each side getting an early shower in the first half after being sent off. Both sides created chances in the first half but the sides went in scoreless at half time.

The vital breakthrough came in the 52nd minute after great build up play Donal Dillane scored the goal that won the game. Classic tried hard to engineer an equaliser but they were denied by a couple of great saves by Ballymac keeper Jack Myers.

Ballymac have plenty to play for in their last five games of the season.
