GARDA VISIT
The community Garda for Mountcollins, Harda John McGuire will attend Mountcollins Community Centre on next Wednesday night, February 12th from 6pm to 8pm. He will be free to meet with residents of the area to discuss any local or individual issues people may have. He will also be available for any outstanding form signing or administrative issues people may have. No appointment is necessary, just turn up on the night.
HUNTING FESTIVAL
The annual Abbeyfeale Harriers Hunting Festival for 2020 will commence on Sunday next and will continue for six days at various venues with an 11am start each day. Hunting is on foot and participants are asked to show respect for landowners and their property. The quarry is fox and the cap is €10 per meet which will be supporting The Kerry Hospice Foundation. The event will commence at Naughtons Bar, Mountcollins on Sunday next, February 9th, Joint meet with Glenville Harriers and Cloyne Harriers, Monday, February 10th, Walsh’s Bar, Knocknagoshel, joint meet with Rockfield Harriers and Rooves Bridge Harriers, Tuesday, February 11th, The Goal Post Bar, Tournafulla, joint meet with Bridgetown Harriers andf Minerock Harriers, Wednesday, February 12th, Shanahans Bar, Strand, Carraigshane Harriers, Thursday, February 13th, Lyons Bar, Scartnaglin, joint meet with Lismore Harriers and South Tipperary Harriers, (this is a memorial for John O Connor and Anthony Cronin), Friday, February 14th, DP Lyons Bar, Abbeyfeale, Brosna Foxhounds, (Memorial meet for Jackie O Grady). GAA LOTTO
There was no winner of the Mountcollins/Tournafulla GAA lotta where the numbers drawn were, 3, 14, 25 and 26. Lucky dip prizes went to Sam Foley, Templeglantine, Christy O Connor, Tournafulla, Mary O Connell,, Mountcollins and Donal Sheehan, Kilbrin. The promoters prize went to Davy Clarke.
DRAW WINNER
Congratulations to Paudie Naughton who was a winner of €250 prize in the clun Limerick draw for Janurary. The draw is promoted locally by Mountcollins GAA club and the launch of the 2020 draw will take place in March.
ELECTION 2020
Voting for the 2020 General Election will be held on Saturday next February 8th. Locals can cast their vote in Mountcollins National School between 7am and 10pm. All those entitled to cote should avail of the privilege.
SCHOOL ENROLMENT
Names are now being accepted for enrollment in Mountcollins National School for the school year commencing in September 2020. Parents wishing to have their children receive their primary education in Mountcollins are asked to contact the school at 068-44470 as soon as possible.
COLLECTION
There will be a church gate collection on Sunday next, February 9th before the 11am mass in Mountcollins for St Vincents Centre, Lisnagary. The centre provides services for people with disabilities and your support is appreciated.
BINGO
A date for your diary is Sunday, February 16th for the first of our fundraising bingo sessions which will be held in the Community Centre commencing at 3pm. Prize money of €2,000 will be on offer. A double book and one jackpot sheet is €15, a single book and one jackpot sheet is €13 and a half book is €5. All support is greatly appreciated.
IT’S THE REAL MCCOY
The Sliabh Luachra Drama Group are really packing The Heritage Centre in Scartaglen with their production of the hilarious comedy “It’s the Real McCoy” and it’s very well worth seeing. The group will present their production again this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday February 7,8,9 at 8pm each night. Admission is E10 and all bookings should be made to (087) 7800208.
SUNDAY NIGHT DANCING
The Sunday Night Dance at Scartaglen Heritage Centre has moved to The River Island Hotel Castleisland for the next few weeks. On Sunday night next February 9th, Mike Condon and his band will provide the entertainment. Dancing as usual 9pm 11.30pm. Admission is E10 and there will be the usual free draw with the door ticket.
LOURDES HELPERS
The Diocesan collection at masses in this locality this weekend is for Lourdes helpers. These volunteers do tremendous work in helping and attending to people with disabilities who go on pilgrimage to the French place of Marian devotion.
RAMBLING HOUSE
Due to Storm Brendan the January Rambling House at Scartaglen Heritage Centre was cancelled, but it’s all systems go again for February and Monday night next February 10 sees the next get-together taking place. Starting time as usual is 8.30pm. Admission is free with a raffle and refreshments on the night. All are welcome.
HOW TO AGE WELL
The “How To Age Well” seminar is coming to Kerry on February 10th. This is a free community event and will be delivered by leading Irish expert Professor Rose Anne Kenny at The Rose Hotel, Tralee from 7pm to 9pm. The real secrets of how to age well, will be shared at this seminar in Tralee organised by Kerry GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee and TILDA and supported by Irish Life. GOAL MILE
The GOAL Mile held in Castleisland on Christmas Day morning raised a sum of E3,200 which was distributed to GOAL and local charities. Thanks is due to everyone who took part in this fundraising event.
POLLING DAY
Polling Day for the General Election is Saturday next February 8 will polling booths open from 7am to 10pm. There are three polling booths in Scartaglen National School Booth 1 is for electors numbered 1-495. Electors numbered 496 890 are in Booth 2 whilst Booth 3 will accommodate electors numbered 891-1310. Best of luck to all candidates standing in Kerry for the election.
IRISH WHEELCHAIR ASSOCIATION
The Irish Wheelchair Association wish to thank all who contributed to their annual church gate collection which was held in this locality recently. The total amount collected to €1,201.05. Thanks again to all and a special word of thanks to those who helped take up the collection.
