Donaghy to kick off new TG4 Laochra Gael series

and Waterville, and two from Mid Kerry, Glenbeigh/Glencar and Milltown/Castlemain­e, in what is a really tough group to call a winner of.

At a push the semi-finalists should be An Ghaeltacht, Currow, Rathmore and Glenbeigh/Glencar, with Rathmore to edge An Ghaeltacht in the final if they don’t meet at the penultimat­e stage.

PAUL Galvin, Éamonn Fitzmauric­e, Micheál Quirke, Tyrone defender Joe McMahon, journalist­s Vincent Hogan and Michael Moynihan, and his sister Deirdre Donaghy are all contributo­rs to an episode of the new TG4 Laochra Gael series that rememebers the football career of Kieran Donaghy.

Donaghy was present at Tuesday’s launch of the 18th series of the hour-long format that brings each player’s personal stories to screen. Donaghy’s is the first programme to air and will be broadcast on Thursday, March 5 at 9.30pm.

GAA President John Horan said: “Many great warriors have played our games down through the years and TG4 are to be praised for the tributes they pay to these great heroes through their seriesLaoc­hra Gael. These players are among the finest to have played our games. They have given so much happiness and memories, not only to people of their own clubs and counties but to the GAA community as a whole with their exploits on the field of play. It is great that these players get to tell their stories through this television series and that new generation­s of young people can get to know them and to get to learn about their achievemen­ts. This series ensures that the legacy of these great players will live long in the memory.”

Doanghy’s programme, which is titled On The Edge will be on successive Thursday by episodes featureing Wexford hurler Diarmuid Lyng, All-Ireland winning footballer Alan Brogan, Galway hurler Iggy Clarke, former Mayo footballer David Brady, and Brenda McAnepsie who played football with Monaghan.
