U16 BOYS BASKETBALL

On Saturday at Duagh sports and leisure complex the finals of the Co. Community Games U16 boys basketball took place with the top four teams from the group rounds Duagh/Lyre, Glenflesk, Fossa and Rathmore/Gneeveguilla taking part. The draws were made and up in the first semi final were Duagh/Lyre v Glenflesk. This game got off to a good start and the Duagh/Lyre boys were unlucky not to get some of their scoring chances converted into points on the board. The game was there for the taking for either team but the Glenflesk team proved a little stronger in the end with the game ending 37-25 to Glenflesk. In the second semi final in a nail biting finish saw Fossa overcome Rathmore/Gneeveguilla by two points, this meant that Duagh/ Lyre would play Rathmore/Gneeveguilla in the 3rd and 4th place playoff. Duagh/Lyre got off to a great start scoring the first basket and this was followed by Rathmore/Gneeveguilla, the first half was the same throughout and only a basket separating the teams at half time.

In the second half Duagh/Lyre moved the ball well and put up some great shots and notched the points on the board. Each member of the team contributed to the game and gave encouragement to each other. The game ended with Duagh/Lyre 40 to Rathmore/Gneeveguilla 31, securing the bronze medals. The final was won by Fossa who now go on to represent the County at Munster finals.
