Causeway lets loose its passion for fashion
FASHION SHOW HELD AT COMPREHENSIVE IN AID OF CAMPAIGN TO BUY SHANNON BALLROOM
CAUSEWAY’S campaign to purchase its old ballroom of romance in order to bring it back into the centre of public life continued apace at the weekend in a great response to a fundraising fashion show.
‘Oskars’ fever is gripping the community ahead of the big night of screenings in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel on March 6. And last Friday’s fashion show was all to do with the big screen fun.
The Oskars will see more than 100 local actors mount their own versions of excerpts from seven iconic movies and TV shows, from The Boxer to Fr Ted, Walk the Line, Legally Blonde and more.
Each film crew was tasked with organising its own fundraiser towards the campaign to purchase the old Shannon Ballroom in the heart of the village. And Friday’s fashion show was the work of the crew of The Boxer.
One of the organisers Evelyn Leen said they were thrilled with the response, despite the bad night: “We had a fantastic response and indeed the response from the community overall to the campaign by the Causeway Community Action Group to buy the Shannon Ballroom has been immense.
“It was at the heart of local life right back to the 1930s with people cycling from all over to attend dances there. And Macra even staged concerts there up until the 1990s, so it will be fantastic to get it back in use for the community once more.
“The fashion show was our fundraiser in terms of the Boxer crew and we were thrilled to have fashion from 14 outlets on the night including Mountain Wearhouse, Elvery’s, Paco, Weardrobe, Paraffin, Celsius, Mods and Minis, Ryle Menswear, Rose and Crown Boutique/Glamorous, Jasmine, Pamela Scott, Rockalilly, Suits Select and Sean Hussey.”
What made the night even better were the models - all locals. “The response from the crowd was that they enjoyed it more because the models were people they know and meet everyday, and it helped them relate to the styles all the more,” Evelyn explained.
