MUNSTER JUNIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 3

Dunmanway 7 Killorglin 29

KILLORGLIN will be playing Division 2 rugby next year after defeating west Cork side Dunmanway in their own patch last Sunday. The men from the Laune knew before the game that a bonus point victory would secure their promotion and thy did everything that was required to come away with a comprehensive win.

The early stages of the game saw a number of errors from both sides as they struggled to get a foothold on the game. The windy conditions probably didn’t help as it made ball handling a lottery at times.

Killorglin eventually got into their stride and Fionan O’Sullivan touched down for their first try following a well executed line out move. The wind carried the conversion wide but from the kick off the visitors attacked once more.

Killorglin secured another line out inside Dunmanway’s ‘22, and after securing some good possession, Stephen Cotter did brilliantly to find space and secure Killorglin’s second try of the game. This time Luke O’Shea made no mistake with the conversion and the visitors pushed 12-0 ahead.

Dunmanway roused themselves and came at Killorglin with all guns blazing. The intense pressure led to two yellow cards for high tackles, but some brilliant tackling from Stephen Cotter kept the

Cork side out. Killorglin forced a turnover and attacked the Dunmanway line. Timmy Lynch showed his power to cross the line for his sides third try, and with O’Shea adding the extras, Killorglin took a 19-0 lead to half time.

Killorglin attacked Dunmanway with gusto in the second half as they went in search of the all important fourth try. It almost came when Tommy Moriarty crossed the line but was held up. On the next possession Timmy Lynch crossed for his second and his sides all important fourth try to secure the bonus point.

Killorglin took their foot off the pedal for a period and Dunmanway punished them with their own converted try. Some fresh legs were sprung from the Killorglin bench to counteract Dunmanway’s growing confidence, and they were rewarded when veteran Andrew O’Reilly fittingly touched down for his side’s fifth try in his 19th year playing with his club.
