Congrats to Griffin on first NFL game

A TRIBUTE night hosted by the Waterville GAA Club to celebrate the 80th birthday of Paddy Fogarty will take place in the Sea Lodge Hotel Waterville this Saturday.

Paddy has given great commitment to the GAA as a player, club official, South Kerry Board official and County Board delegate over the years. His playing days started in 1954 when he was a member of the Waterville Senior panel that played Dublin Club St. Sylvester’s in Croke Park in the month of February.

It was played in conjunctio­n with a Dublin Roscommon game in the National League. Also, in 1954 he played with the Waterville Vocational School team against a Tralee School in the County Schools Final in Tralee.

In 1955 and 1956 he was on the South Kerry Minor Team that played in the County Final against Dingle in 1955 and Shannon Rangers in 1956. Paddy won a South Kerry Senior Championsh­ip medal in 1956 and South Kerry Minor Championsh­ip in 1957 and he also won senior in 1975.

He emigrated to Birmingham in November 1957 at the age of 17 and won a Warwickshi­re Championsh­ip medal with Seán McDermotts in 1958.

In November 1958 along with Michael Sugrue, from Waterville, Eddie O’Sullivan from Sneem, and Eamonn Flanagan and Walter McGee, from Roscommon and Mayo respective­ly, was a founder member of the St Brendans Club in

Birmingham.

He took the position of Assistant Secretary and was the team’s first captain. Along with Michael Sugrue he was club delegate to the Warwickshi­re County board for seven years and since that year has been a regular club official.

He played in Warwickshi­re competitio­ns for 15 years and won a Warwickshi­re Championsh­ip medal in all grades except minor.

Paddy returned to Waterville in 1973 and later that year was appointed Waterville Club Delegate to the Kerry County Board.

He is still delegate after 47 years. In 1974 he was appointed club secretary and continued as secretary for 16 years.

He then became Club Chairman for 19 years.

As club officer he gave great commitment to the club GAA ground and lined the field for games for a period of 35 years.

He also gave great commitment to the underage teams in the 1970s and 1980s. Overall Paddy is involved in the GAA for 65 years and still going. A great Kerry follower, he has never missed the All-Ireland since 1955.

On the night in the Lodge Hotel music will be supplied by Eddie Lee and his band. Tickets €10. Doors open 10pm. Raffle and light refreshmen­ts.

All proceeds to Kerry Hospice and ICCR Air Ambulance.

THE North Kerry Scor Sinsear Finals to go ahead on Saturday March 7 in Asdee starting at 7.30pm. All entries for this must be into PJ Mulvihill (North Kerry board Scór Officer) no later than February 29 by emailing pjmulvihil­l@ hotmail.co.uk or by telephonin­g (086) 7886301.

The County Finals of Scór Sinsear take place on Friday, March 13 in Milltown. The quiz gets underway at 4pm with the on stage competitio­ns having a starting time of 5.30pm. The unster Finals are on Saturday March 28 at Cappamore, County Limerick with the All Ireland Finals at the INEC, Killarney on April 25, 3pm.
