Gneeveguilla 1-10 Cordal / Scartaglen 1-7

PÁIRC na Cùlac in Cordal hosted the Cordal / Scartaglen versus Gneeveguilla Under 21 game last Saturday.

The home side lined out without their Under 20 kerry players Eddie and Seán Horan and Seán O’Connell, but with blustery conditions the combined team led by birthday boy Seán Walsh were leading by 0-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes with scores from two points Shay Walsh and Cathal O’Donoghue.

Gneeveguilla stormed back with Pa Warren dictating matters from midfield and man of the match Evan Cronin scoring three points the half-time score was level at 0-5 points each.

The second half saw Gneeveguilla playing with the wind scored a fortuitous goal early in the half when a high ball finished up in the net and, with Evan Cronin causing havoc and adding two more points, things didn’t look good for Cordal / Scart, but with Pa Warren getting sin-bined for ten minutes the hosts had hope again.

Kieran Enright came good with a fisted goal and following an Eamon Nolan point the scores were level again at 1-7 to 1-7.

The returning Warren from the bin, however, stabilised Gneeveguilla and his strong running up the middle help the away side to finish stronger and won out by three points with a scoreline of 1-7 to Gneeveguilla 1-10.

Glenflesk 3-14 Currow 0-11

GLENFLESK were too strong for Currow to win their second game in the East Kerry League on Saturday in Barraduff.

After the teams shared the first two points of the game Currow had the chance to make the first bug statement of the day when they were awarded an early penalty. The effort looked to be heading right in the corner of the net, but barely missed the post with many in attendance not sure if it had gone in or not.

Glenflesk took full advantage of this lucky break soon after. Danny Lucey latched onto a loose Currow pass before finding Dara Fleming who coolly finished to the net. Fleming added another point soon after as Glenflesk began to take control.

Currow were reliant on frees for there scores as the early penalty miss seemed to be affecting them greatly. Just before half-time

Glenflesk added a second goal. Darragh Roche beat his marker to a long ball, cut inside, and then rasped a shot with his left foot to the roof of the net. The goal gave Glenflesk a 2-6 to 0-6 lead at half-time.

The second half started slowly with both teams missing early changes. Seán McGrath eventually opened Glenflesk’s account after patient build up play. Dara Fleming then calmly finished off the post to get his second goal, before adding another point after a laser guided pass from Brian O’Donoghue.

The teams shared scores for the rest of the match as Currow could not create the goal chance needed to mount a come back.
