KERRY: The Kerry seniors travelled to Down at the weekend for round 2 of the National league. Following their disappointing loss to Galway in round 1, Kerry were eager for an improvement and that was certainly the case at half time as Kerry led 0-12 to 1-5. Facing a second half breeze, Kerry’s scoring opportunities were limited by a tough Down defence and the kingdom couldn’t get that badly needed goal to lose by 1-16 to 0-15.

Kilmoyley girls to line out were Clodagh Walsh, Jessica Fitzell and Laura Collins. Kerry play Wexford next at home on 8th March

FIXTURES AND RESULTS: Knocknagoshel got their first victory of the season in the North Kerry league when they overcame Ballylongford on Sunday morning in Ballylongford. Despite all the rain of recent days the pitch was in very good condition and lent itself to an open and high scoring game. Goals in the first half from James Walsh and John Walsh had Knocknagoshel leading at half time by 2-7 to 7 points. Liam McCarthy and Ciaran O’Connor were the point scorers for the home side. Ballylongford had a promising start to the second half with two well taken advanced marks leading to points from Ciaran O’Connor but Knocknagoshel slowly regained control of the game with Michael Walsh driving his team forward from centre back and Shane O’Connell growing in stature in midfield.

Some well taken points from Michael Keane, Edmund Walsh and Michael Walsh ensured victory for the visitors on a score of 2-12 to 0-14. Knocknagoshel will play Moyvane in the North Kerry League on Sunday 1st March at 2pm in Moyvane. Knocknagoshel have been drawn in a group with Annascaul, Sneem/ Derrynane and Kilgarvan in the Junior Championship. Games will take place in late March and April.
