Dynamos dent Killarney Athletic’s title credentials
DENNY PREMIER A
Tralee Dynamos 1 Killarney Athletic 0
KILLARNEY Athletic title aspirations took a setback when they lost to Tralee Dynamos at Cahermoneen on Sunday. The goal that won the game was scored by Lorcan Seymour giving the Tralee side a great win which moves them out of the relegation zone.
DENNY PREMIER B
Killarney Celtic ‘B’ 1 Castleisland ‘B’ 0
BACK around Christmas Killarney Celtic B were in relegation difficulties but what a transformation they have accomplished in the New Year and after a series of wins they are now up to second in the table.
Their latest win was at Celtic Park on Friday night when they got the better of title contenders Castleisland B in a keenly contested game. The match winning goal was scored by Ryan Kelliher.
Celtic have only three games left to play in their league programme and with other leading contenders having a number of games in hand it looks as if they are unlikely to make it to the decider, but could be a side to watch out for in the upcoming cup competitions.
DENNY DIVISION 1A
Killorglin B 1 Castlemaine United 5
CASTLEMAINE United climbed back to the top of the table after a comfortable win over Killorglin B at the Dragon’s Den on Saturday night with all the goals coming in the first half.
The home side came off the blocks quickest and took an early lead after a good move with Seán Costello lobbed the Castlemaine goalie. Castlemaine were spurred into action from here and when Wayne Coffey equalised in the 15th minute it was plain sailing from here until half time for the visitors.
Castlemaine went ahead shortly afterwards courtesy of an own goal. Cathal Moriarty made it 3-1 with a beauty of a shot to the bottom corner of the net. Wayne Coffey was forced to retire for Castlemaine after incurring an injury after half an hour and was replaced by Pádraig O’Brien.
He did not waste any time getting into the action bagging a brace of goals both sublime in execution which put his side in a commanding position and out of sight at half-time.
The second half was a mediocre affair with Castlemaine taking the pedal off the gas and both sides using their bench but no further scores emerged.
This win moves Castlemaine United back to the top of the table on 27 points with nine wins from 11 league games and three fixtures remaining in the campaign. Castlemaine and CSCB are now favourites to make it to the decider with perhaps Ballymac Celtic still in with an outside chance.
DENNY DIVISION 1B
Killarney Athletic ‘B’ 3 Windmill United 0
KILLARNEY Athletic collected the 3 points with a good win over Windmill United. Jack Cooper, (two) and Monziur Yassin scored for the winners.
DENNY DIVISION 2A
Mastergeeha 3 Rattoo Rovers B 0
MASTERGEEHA closed the gap at the top of the table on Mainebank to just two points after a comfortable win over Rattoo Rovers B. James Nagle, Dylan Murphy and Gearoid Kerins scored for the winners.
DENNY DIVISION 2B
Windmill United ‘B’ 4 Lenamore Rovers 3
A DAZZLING hat-trick by Eoin Lynch set Windmill on their way to claim the three league points, which keeps them in contention for a place in the league final.
This thrilling win by the Blennerville side moves up to joint-second in table with Killorglin C in a seven-goal thriller with Ballylongford side Lenamore Rovers at the KDL on Saturday night in a game that provided excellent entertainment.
Lenamore went ahead with a thunderbolt of a header by Donal Leahy but Windmill brought the game back to parity with a fine strike. Lenamore regained the lead with a superb goal by Jake Kelly but a brace of goals from Windmill put them 3-2 ahead.
True to their nature Lenamore fought back and levelled the game with another great Jake Kelly goal. As the game entered the concluding minutes it appeared that the sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils, but Windmill had other ideas and man of the match Lynch struck for the winner in the 88th minute.
On present standings in this division its looks as if table toppers MEK Galaxy are destined for the final and it will be a great battle between Killorglin C and Windmill United for that second spot.
MEK are a point ahead at the top with five games left to play and are almost certainly going to make the final.
Killorglin and Windmill are level on twenty points but crucially Killorglin have a game in hand with Windmill having three games left to play while Killorglin have four.
Nevertheless both sides have everything to play for in the concluding games in the division.
Lisard Wanderers 3 Clanmaurice 0
LISARD Wanderers moved up to mid table after a good win over Clanmaurice. Declan Cooney, Brandon Byrne and Leon Shalemba scored for the winners.
