A YOUNG man and woman were jailed after Gardaí stopped and searched a stolen car in west Cork as part of an investigation into a reported Tralee burglary.

Four people appeared before a special sitting of Bandon District Court at the weekend arising from an incident in which gardaí stopped a car outside Enniskeane and discovered the vehicle had been stolen from an address in Tralee two days earlier.

Judge John King jailed Nadia Halligan (27) for two months. Halligan of Edel House, Grattan Street, Cork, pleaded guilty to theft while trespassing at a building in Woodview Park, Tralee between March 26 and 27.

Judge King also imposed a two-month sentence, which he agreed to suspend, after Halligan pleaded guilty to stealing goods to the value of €24 from a Kerry filling station. This was via the unlawful use of a bank card belonging to someone else.

He also jailed Niall Keegan (23) for four months for the unlawful taking of a vehicle.

Keegan of Thomas Kent Park, The Glen, Cork pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle, contrary to Section 112 of the Road Traffic Act, from an address in Tralee on March 26/27.

Judge King also imposed a consecutive 12-week sentence on Keegan for driving with no insurance at Enniskeane on March 27 contrary to the Road Traffic Act.

Keegan also received a further two-month suspended sentence for stealing goods to the value of €24 from a Kerry filling station, again via the unlawful use of someone else’s bank card.

Two others, who appeared before Judge King in the same court, were remanded on bail to a future court date.

Dave Walsh (25) of Park Place Apartments, Tralee, and Kelley O’Shea (23) of Bibi’s Hostel, Tralee, appeared on charges contrary to Section 112 of the Road Traffic Act.

Both were remanded on bail to appear again before Bandon District Court on June 19 next.
