There was a place for everyone at Mary’s table
ON March 24, 2020, Mary McShane passed away peacefully at the age of 86.
Mary was born on Valentine’s Day 1934, the first-born child of Bridie and Tim Lacey in Tralee.
With her adventurous spirit, she emigrated from Ireland to New York in 1958. Just a few years later, she married her one true love, Owen (Eugene) McShane.
Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Bridget; her husband, Eugene; her brothers, Anthony and Eddie; and her sisters, Eileen, Anne and Bibi.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Maureen McShane and David Papillo of Somerville, MA; Owen and Tracey McShane of Loudenville, NY; and Eilleen and Tony Verboys of Warwick, NY.
She is also survived by her beloved sisters and brothers, Dorothy, Tess, Tim, Jack, Matt, and Martin; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, family and friends.
Every single day, she treasured her grand-kids: Patrick, Evan, Timothy, Sarah and Elizabeth.
After starting a career in book-keeping, she found her true calling as a teaching assistant in the Clarkstown School District working in both Link Elementary and Felix Festa Junior High.
She saw the value in education and earned distinguished service awards as PTA president in West Nyack Elementary, Felix Festa Junior High and Clarkstown South High School.
Mom, Mary, Aunt Mary or Granny... whatever you called her, there was always a place at her table and a hot cup of tea ready in the kitchen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association.
Due to the current health crisis, burial will be private, and a celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a future date.
