Cannabis plants estimated at €200k street value seized by Killarney Gardaí
GARDAÍ in Killaney are continuing their enquires into the drug trade in Kerry following the seizure of €200,000 worth of cannabis plants last week.
Gardaí seized over 250 suspected cannabis plants, after discovering a grow house in the town last Thursday, April 16.
Gardaí from the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by Killarney Gardaí and the Southern Region Dog Unit, executed a search warrant at a house and its lands outside of Killarney town.
During the course of the search, Gardaí found 250 suspected cannabis plants, which were at an early stage of growth. If grown to maturity and sold gardaí said the plants would have a potential street value of €206,000.
Gardaí also seized €100 in cannabis herb, €2,500 in cash and a weighing scales. The suspected cannabis plants and herb will now be sent for analysis.
No arrests have been made but Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.
The raid last Thursday came following two raids earlier in the week further halting drug supplies in Killarney.
On April 12, Gardaí seized €5,850 in suspected drugs and €1,400 in cash in Killarney, following a surveillance operation. They followed a car to a house in Killarney and the driver went in. He returned the car and drove off and was stopped and searched. Gardaí located €1,400 in cash hidden under the passenger seat and a small weighing scales in the boot. The items were seized and the driver, a man in his 30s, was allowed to leave.Gardaí then obtained and executed a search warrant at a flat in Killarney where they found suspected methamphetamine, cannabis, ecstasy, zip lock bags and a weighing scales. €5,760 of methamphetamine, €80 of cannabis and €10 of ecstasy was seized. On April 14, Gardaí also seized €4,500 of suspected cocaine in Killarney.
