Credit Unions are here to help
IN this unprecedented time credit unions recognise that many of their members will face unexpected hardship through unemployment and other events associated with COVID-19.
Helen Courtney Power, Chairperson of the Credit Union’s Chapter 23 Marketing Group stated the chapters members unions are urging members to contact their local credit union, either by phone or online, to discuss possible flexible arrangements regarding their loans over the coming months if their financial circumstances have changed.
“We can assure members that they will be treated fairly and with empathy,” said Ms Power.
A number of credit unions have amended their opening hours at this time. Members are advised to check with their credit union before they call into branches.
Chapter 23 Credit Union is comprised of credit union in Kerry and West Limerick including Cara, Killarney, Listowel, Rathmore, Dingle, Clanmaurice and Abbeyfeale.
“While we understand that economic conditions are challenging at the moment, credit unions are still opening for lending. We will work with members to help with short term cash or help with bills to help them get through this time. Two credit unions are offering current accounts which allows members to access their accounts using an ATM card and manage their accounts online. Cara and Killarney Credit Union have also agreed to cut their current account fees for Q1 in light of the Covid 19 crisis.
