Tonevane ladies clip grabs eye of James Corden

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

IT was thee talk of the county last week: the residents of Tonevane who got dressed up in their most colourful ‘70s-style clothes and danced and sung their heart out to ABBA’s hit song ‘Mamma Mia’.

It’s near impossible to watch the video and not have a smile on your face afterwards, and this is no doubt one of the many reasons why the clip grabbed the attention of James Corden and his team at his ‘Late, Late Show’ on CBS.

The clip was spotted online by producers of the show, who decided that it deserved the first spot on the programme’s good news segment entitled ‘Three Things To Cheer You Up’.

“First up, as anyone who has seen our show knows, nothing makes me feel more alive than singing and dancing in traffic. Well, it turns out that there’s a community in Ireland that feel the same,” said host Corden speaking about the viral video.

“A whole neighbourhood all came together to special social distancing surprise for 91-yearold Mary O’Brien and her son, who were feeling a bit lonely during quarantine,” Corden continued.

After watching the short clip, Corden quips to comedian Reggie Wyatt that “street gangs have really mellowed during this whole thing, haven’t they?”

For anyone who hasn’t seen the clip, we highly recommend you check it out as it will not fail to put a smile on your face.

Organised by Teresa O’Brien and Mary Gardiner, the residents of Tonevane are no strangers to keeping active during the lockdown.

And, abiding by social-distancing protocols, the choreography was carefully planned and carried out to perfection.

The clip has been viewed thousands and thousands of times all over the world, with reporters from ‘Good Morning America’ even getting in contact after seeing the clip.
