No shortage of non-locals to be seen during short trip into Kenmare town
SIR,
Having stayed at home for several weeks, today I drove the eight miles to my local town of Kenmare to run some messages (vet, creamery, supermarkets, etcetera).
I couldn’t believe how many “strangers” were in town despite our government’s instructions not to travel to holiday homes and so on.
Especially in Kenmare’s three large supermarkets’ car parks, I noticed numerous non-local cars and visitors.
Clearly, there can’t have been too many Garda checkpoints en route. There were also Dutch and German-registered cars, and I even met one French-registered camper van on the road.
Who allowed those people enter this country, never mind onto the ferry? I was in Kenmare for just under two hours today, and I did not personally see one Guard in that time.
So much for our individual efforts to stay at home and do the right thing, Sincerely,
Heike O’Sullivan, Bonane,
Kenmare.
Our country is reeling from Covid-19; A virus like this has never been seen
Doctors and nurses run off their feet; Working long hours patients to treat
In horrible times bravery intervenes; And will never a moment pause
To aid those in distressful scenes; They will always rally to the cause
The beauty of unselfish dedication; In responding to those who are ill
We offer our humble appreciation; And we hope that recover they will.
Thank you, heroes of our nation; all you that rallied to the call in this time of desperation May God bless one and all, Sincerely,
Dan O’Connor, Tarmons East, Tarbert.
