I’ve never watched the news so much...Mr Holohan you are my hero

-

DAY 695 in Lockdown, well that’s how it feels anyhow.

They’re talking about the possibility of easing restrictions next week but I don’t see how. I don’t pretend to understand all the medical jargon and stats but I do know if they tell us all we can just do what we want, we’ll be like a herd of wild animals and right back to where we started.

Not that that’s going to happen. This is going to be with us for a long time to come and we’re going to have to accept it.

Some people are accepting it better than others. I heard of a large group of people who took a bus from Waterford to Cork just for the craic the other day but were stopped by Gardai. What a shower of selfish idiots!

I’ve never watched the news so much in my life. Every evening before the 6 p.m. bulletin, I’m usually making dinner so I shout in to the kids, ‘pause it, pause it!’

Then I hold my breath when they announce the latest figures.

‘Is that higher than yesterday?’ I ask anxiously.

‘Mam, you ask that every day,’ they reply.

Tony Holohan, The Chief Medical Officer is my hero in all of this. He’s doing a bloody brilliant job and comes across as a decent, honest man. If Tony Holohan tells us to jump over the quay, I’ll jump over the quay because I trust him and I believe he has our best interests at heart.

I read somewhere that if they do ease restrictions they may allow small gatherings–parties of ten to congregate in people’s homes.

I’ve been thinking about my Top Ten ever since. I mean obviously I don’t want to offend anyone but if you’re meeting up with nine people after weeks of self isolation you want to make sure you really really like them.

I don’t particularly want to invite my family – sorry if you’re reading this and I love you very much but I’m sick of the sight of you all! I’d invite my dad because I haven’t seen him in ages and he’s always good for a laugh. Plus he’d definitely bring lots of wine.

I’d invite the friends who have shown me immense kindness over these past few months – sending me books and cards, leaving treats for the kids outside the front door, checking in on me via text to make sure I was ok. Those small gestures meant so much and will never be forgotten.

I’d probably give in and let Himself come because a) he could cook and b) he makes a mean cocktail and if there was one space left I’d invite Tony Holohan, sure you’d have to – that man has done everything he can to keep us safe in recent times.

I’d say he’d be great craic with a few brandies in him!!

I’D INVITE MY DAD BECAUSE I HAVEN’T SEEN HIM IN AGES AND HE’S ALWAYS GOOD FOR A LAUGH. PLUS HE’D DEFINITELY BRING LOTS OF WINE
