Your Local Representative, Working for You
THIS is the resounding message from County Councillors and TDs in Kerry as people continue to endure interruptions to everyday life brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s been a hard time for us all and a tragic time for some as families deal with the COVID-19 fallout. Knowing that public representatives are willing to assist constituents in any way they can has long been a feature of Irish society, and it’s vital to know that this service still continues through the COVID-19 crisis.
A total of 33 Councillors from across the five Municipal Districts in Kerry - CastleislandCorca Dhuibhne, Tralee,
Listowel, Killarney and Kenmare – were elected in the last local elections to be held in 2019. Each Councillor is contactable by phone, or email, details of which are available to the public via: www.kerrycoco. ie/councillors/
Kerry returned five TD’s to the Dáil in February 2020 and they are also fielding queries on a weekly basis from constituents concerning the resumption of normal life once social distancing restrictions start to ease in the coming weeks.
The message is that even in these uncertain times, political representatives want people to know that they are still meeting regularly and discussing the pertinent issues affecting individuals and their localities.
Even though the normal schedule of full Council and Municipal District meetings is temporarily suspended because of the current public health emergency, Councillors are being updated regularly by the Chief Executive and senior management of Kerry County Council (KCC).
Councillors are meeting weekly through teleconferencing for briefings with representatives of the parties and representatives of the independents in attendance. KCC’s Corporate Services staff are also available to assist with any queries or issues that Councillors and the general public may have.
The saying that ‘all politics is local’ has never been truer as we slowly start to emerge from this crisis. That is why political representatives - regardless of political preference or persuasion – are there to help. It’s up to you, the voter, how best to utilise this important public service.
Queries about welfare payments, health treatment, jobs, running a business, domestic concerns surrounding rent and mortgage relief is just an example of the relevant issues that are still ongoing. So be sure to get in touch with your local representative today. They are in office to serve you, the people.
