The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Stephen CONWAY

-

TRALEE man Stephen Conway is the best full back I have seen in Kerry over the past 20 years. In every game he turned defence into attack at every given opportunity with his long, penetrating runs out of defence. Even though he is small in stature he does not shy clear of tackles.

He starred for a number of years with Lisselton Rovers and in more recent years has found his calling on the other side of the Atlantic in America.

After serving Kerry soccer so well for many years and winning many accolades, Stephen is now carving out a great coaching career in the USA.

The highly talented Tralee man has played for Tralee Dynamos, St Brendan’s Park, Lisselton Rovers, Limerick FC, Fairview Rangers, San Francisco City FC, Lansdowne Bhoys NYC, Jersey City Eagles, Thomas University, and Boston Bolts USL.

Conway’s list of honours includes three KDL Premier title (two with

Lisselton and one with Tralee Dynamos), the Greyhound Bar and Castle Bar Cup, several Munster Junior Cup Kerry Area Finals, Sun Conference Championship in 2013 with Thomas University,

2013 All

American East Selection, First Team All-Conference 2012 and 2013, and he was named on the 2015 Thomas University All Time XI.

An Everton supporter, his favourite player is Cafu of Brazil, and the best player he’s played against is

Stephen Ireland.

Conway says he has some great memories to reflect upon but none came close to that feeling he got playing for Kerry. He grew up watching his father and brother play in Mounthawk Park and that brought him great pride and was something to aspire towards.

Now coaching in America, he says he is very fortunate to wake up every day to work for one of the best soccer clubs in the US, Boston Bolts FC.
