TIDY TOWNS

Even though the Tidy Towns competition has been cancelled for this year we decided to plant up our planters with summer colour. We hope these will enhance the village and brighten our spirits. Many thanks also to all the householders who water and care for the planters.

NEWS FROM BUDS

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT - Bud’s Meals on Wheels Service & Community Cafe. We are often asked who supports our Meals on Wheels & Community cafe? We are a non profit organisation and all our funds raised from the dinners we deliver goes towards the running costs. Example: Gas, Electricity, staffing, the purchasing of disposable food containers, dinner plates, gloves, aprons, masks, food, vegetables, meat costs and cleaning materials etc. Fuel for Vans, Insurance Tax, DOE, Servicing and Tyres. The support of Volunteers and CE Workers.2 years ago a company sponsored fuel for one year for one of our vans. Again this year a bakery has started making treats one day a week for our Meals and Wheels clients. Both of these supports make a huge difference. If anyone is interest in sponsoring any part of this important service please contact us Katie (066)7148883 & Nora (087)8122437. Bud’s Centre is open from 9.00am 4.00pm Monday to Friday. Main door open for Takeaway meals, Face Masks, Information Forms and Activity Packs. Washable cotton Face masks, made by Eileen, are available please ring Katie on (066)7148883 or call in to Bud’s.

EMERGENCY SUPPORT

My Name Is Ger Lowe and I have been given permission to meet emergency cases in KDYS Listowel and Bud’s Centre, Ballyduff, following the tragic death of young person from Lixnaw/ Ballyduff. If any of her friends or family members need one to one support over the next few weeks. Please contact me on (087) 9263803. Obviously strict regulations and social distancing would be adhered to in the process. At present this would operate two days a week namely Tuesdays and Thursdays. I also have a zoom family support group running on Monday and Thursday evenings at 5 O’clock if parents need support. I can be contacted on (087) 9263803 for phone support or emergency face to face appointments.

BAKE FOR KERRY HOSPICE:

This event only started recently and we are just delighted with the support. The baking is amazing and it’s great to see all the family getting involved. In Listowel

a sister page Dolly Bake is also on line and you can get involved by baking and donating on line. The Dollys also made a fantastic video which is definately worth a watch. Thanks you to all who took part and hope you continue to bake and have fun.

FUTURE EVENTS

Any Kerry Hospice Foundation Fundraising events will continue to be postponed for the month of May and June and this sadly includes the National Sunflower Days. We have joined forces with another 25 Hospices around Ireland to Come Together For Hospice. All of us together are setting up a national fundraising drive in which Marty Morrisseyis behind and all that is raised in each County stays there. Click on Togetherforhospice.ie for more information.

BALLYDUFF GAA

Pieta House Darkness into Light: Many thanks to everyone who took part in the fundraiser for Pieta House on Friday and Saturday last. We initially had 48 slots each allocated 30 minutes to run, walk or jog but due to Social Distancing we had to extend it to 70. Some chose to walk at the Sportsfield while others chose to exercise at home and even exercised in faraway places like San Francisco and New Jersey. On Saturday afternoon with the figure at €2650 Aidan O’Carroll of Avalanche Web Designs, matched it with a similar amount. By 11.00pm the figure had reached €7100 which is a truly fantastic amount. We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part and donated so generously with special thanks to Aidan O’Carroll for his fantastic contribution. All this would not have been possible without the huge part played by Club Treasurer Noel Brown who coordinated the whole event. Pictures may be seen on Ballyduff GAA Club’s Facebook page. All funds will be forwarded to Pieta House.

COISTE NA NÓG

Well done to everyone that participated in the Run for Pieta House this weekend. Over €7,500 was raised between Friday and Saturday, by club members (as far away as San Francisco and New Jersey) and their families walking/running for 30 minutes from 5.00pm on Friday to 11.00pm on Saturday to raise funds for this worthy cause. This really was an exceptional amount for any club. Almost €5,000 was raised locally with the total amount donated being increased by a sizeable donation from Aidan O’Carroll. Super community effort!

And now back in time we go.. 2015 Congratulations to the Under-14 hurling squad and mentors for winning the County Feile on Monday last! The boys will now have the honour of representing Kerry at the All-Ireland series in June in Belfast. 2016 The Under-11 hurlers were in action this past week, falling to St. Brendan’s in a tightly contested match on Ballyduff’s top field on Friday evening. Meanwhile, the Under-12s split two games with St. Brendan’s footballers on Tuesday in Ardfert, the Colts managing a solid victory while their older teammates struggled against their powerful opponents on the adjacent pitch. With a few injuries and many of the players involved with the busy Under-14 squad, this group will no doubt benefit from a few days’ rest. Also this week four years ago the fundraising efforts for the Ball Wall received a boost with the news that the club had won €3,000 in a Radio Kerry/Dublin Coach competition after submitting a song about our efforts to build a ball wall.

2017 Under 6 and Under 8 football training is now underway with over 40 players attending training this week. And Joe Brolly thought the production line in Kerry had stopped! At Under 14 level, the hurlers were knocked out of this year’s Féile competition with a four-point defeat to a strong Ballyheigue side on Monday in Causeway. The footballers bounced back, however, when they took on St. Senan’s away in Mountcoal on Wednesday, winning 4 -13 to 3 - 8. And well done to the Under 16s who won their Division 2 North Kerry football final clash with Finuge in Beale on Thursday in a game that was all about goals.

2018 All roads led to Abbeydorney last Monday for the Hurling Feile finals. Having already overcome Lixnaw and Crotta in the qualifiers, Ballyduff were contesting the A Final against Kenmare/Kilgarvan who had topped the other group qualifiers. The Ballyduff boys opened the scoring against their opponents and treated the spectators to a great display of skill and enthusiasm over the next forty minutes to ensure a comfortable win.

This U14 team have great heart and commitment and we wish them well when they head to Galway on June 8th to 10th.

The U16 hurlers faced Kenmare/ in Austin Stacks Park on Sunday evening in the League semi-final. An early goal from Kenmare Kilgarvan put them in front early in the first half and it looked like Ballyduff would have a battle on their hands. However the experience of this team showed and they settled in to a comfortable lead, eventually winning 0 - 19 to 2 - 4. They now face Ballyheigue in the final.

2019 Congratulations to the U14 hurlers who were crowned champions in the Feile A final in Abbeydorney on Monday. They defeated a young Ardfert team on a scoreline of 2 - 9 to 0 - 4. Another superb achievement for this young team.

Congratulations to and mentors. all players
