BEREAVEMENT

Sincerest sympathy is extended to the Murphy Family of Sallowglen, on the sad passing of their brother Fr Michael Murphy R.I.P. of the Franciscan order. Fr Michael was ordained Rev. Fr. Colmcille Murphy in July 1971. Working the family farm his calling to the priesthood and taking up his vocation came at a later stage of his life. But seeing his brother Fr Liam enter the priesthood he decided to follow in his footsteps. Shortly after his ordination, he was appointed to the order of St Claires Friary in the Roman Catholic Parish of Blackley in Manchester in the United Kingdom. It was in this parish that he devoted all his energy and time in helping everybody but especially the poor and under privileged. The Rule of Saint Francis and all Franciscan’s, calls for members to practice simple living and detachment from material possessions in emulation of Jesus’ life and earthly ministry.

The simple lifestyle helps members of the order, in whichever branch, to experience solidarity with the poor and to work for social justice. Franciscan spirituality also strongly emphasises working to preserve the Church, and remain loyal to it. These rules Fr Michael followed all his holy life and not alone that, he wrote and published many books all about Franciscan spirituality. He returned home very often during his holidays to visit family and friends and kept close links with the parishes of Bally and Tarbert where he grew up. Rev. Fr Michael passed away on Friday May 8th last.

Michael will be sadly missed and deeply regretted by his loving sisters, brothers, brothersinsisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, family relatives. and wide circle of friends, his Bishop and fellow Franciscian Clergy, and all his parishioners in the St Clare’s Parish of Manchester, United Kingdom to whom we all extend our deepest sympathies at this time. A private Funeral will take place for Fr. Colmcille (Michael), in Manchester.U.K. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Fr Michael’s life will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Tarbert at a later date.

May the light of Heaven shine on him and may he Rest in Peace.
