you had the dispensary where the late Dr Johnny Walsh would attend on a regular basis, moving on towards the village you had Jim Wynne’s shop at the bend, Paddy McElligott’s Forge, Tommy & Paddy Lynch (Horse Trainers), Heaphy’s Shop, O’Sullivan’s Timber Yard & Piggery, Hardware, Pub and Shop. Danny Mulcaire (Plasterer), Carmody’s Undertakers, McCabes Grocery and Bicycle Shop. Jim Carmody Haberdashery, Marie McCabe Drapery Shop, Eileen Curtin (Hairdresser) Danny & Mai Walsh’s Tailor Shop, Ted Hanrahan’s Drapery Shop, Eddie Hanrahan’s Bakery & Confectionary, Jackie Jones Sweet Shop (Down the Steps) Tribros (Mulvihill’s) Bakery, Harry & Audrey Musgrave’s Butcher Shop, Mickie Wallace’s Bar & Shop, The Kelly Bothers Bar (Joe, Matt & Pim), the Parish Hall and the Church then on other side of the Bridge there was Sarah O’Carroll’s Bar and Sadie & Jack O’Connors Bar & Shop and just to further few snippets i.e before the Parish Hall was built dances etc used to take place at the Bridge loft. There was also a public fountain (just before the now entrance to Heaphy’s Centra Car Park shop side) Plus at the Corner the three storey high house (O;Rahilly’s Birth place) was an office for Rhyno Mills in Limerick and also a Sub office for Bank of Ireland.

That amounted to 22 business people operating in just one of the four streets of the village at that time. What a change now to the present day where we have 8 business people operating on that street: Eric O’Neill (Supreme Pool Tables), Eoin O’ Neill (Fabrication), Maura Mangan (Hairdresser) Heaphy’s Centra Foodstore, Gutsos Take away, Tom & Mary Kelly Butchers, Nora Walsh (Horse & Hound Bar), Tom Carmody Alarm & Mobile Phone Equipment Supplies. If you think of more please text or email (Contact Numbers at end of these Notes). Happy reminiscing hope you enjoy this little light hearted memory especially in these strange times that we now find ourselves in. Another Street next Week.

UPDATE ON CLUB LOTTO

Following the Government directive on Social Distancing and The GAA suspension of games and activities in March Ballymac GAA suspended our weekly lotto. Our lotto has been supported by all our community in various ways since it was founded over twenty years ago. The backbone of our weekly lotto have been our local sellers, our local draw venues and our members who run the weekly draw. We also have a good number of our players who play on line. At the moment it is not possible to run the lotto and our Jackpot stands at €7,000.00 . When the Lotto resumes all annual, multi and single tickets that are currently in the draw will be honoured for the full period eg if you have an annual ticket bought locally from a seller you will still get the remaining draws from the total of 50. The locally sold tickets will have the end dates changed to account for the period of time of the suspension.

In the mean time we toyed with running the lotto solely on line and felt our Club could not do this as too many people not playing on line have invested in the Jackpot etc However from next Monday 25th May we are going to run an only on line lotto until we can get back to our normal lotto. This is totally separate from our present lotto and to facility Social Distancing it will be run totally online.

Once we get back to normal this lotto will be finished and we will continue with our normal lotto. The Jackpot of " Ballymac

Play Ball" if not won by the time we return to full activity will be added to the now suspended €7,000.00 jackpot.

Some of our local businesses who have supported Ballymac GAA over the years are opening up to a new normal this week. It has been a tough time for all our local businesses and opening up has its own worries. Monday is not the end of the Lockdown it is only the beginning of something new. We need Phase 1 to work so that we can proceed to Phase 2 on the 8th June and work even harder then to proceed onto Phase 3 & 4 & 5. We as a Community
