‘Run Ballybunion’ challenge goes virtual for 2020
FOR the past 11 years, the hugely popular event. ‘Run Ballybunion’ has taken place at Easter but obviously this year was a little different and so organisers have had to think outside the box for the 2020 edition.
That’s right, while many would have chalked this year up for a loss, that was never an option for those in charge and they are delighted this week to invite people to take part in their new ‘Virtual Run Ballybunion 10k’ event - which as usual will be in aid of the Ballybunion Sea & Cliff Rescue services.
“Even though our everyday lives have changed immeasurably in these last few months the goals of our event have not, leading us to ask; if working from home, schooling at home and shopping from home is all possible - why not run from your own home? This gave rise to the concept of Virtual Runballybunion,” organisers said.
The idea of a Virtual Runballybunion 10k means you register at www.runballybunion.com and you can run your 10k race as you would any other year but within your 20km radius from anywhere in the world.
You’ll receive your t-shirt and medal in the post after you have completed your race; our registration fee will go towards the support of both Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue Services and frontline healthcare staff in Ireland who have worked so hard during this pandemic.
To add to the experience and to continue to promote the run, Ballybunion resident Jerry Lane has created a video of some of the traditional 10k race route, allowing participants to run their race from their treadmill at home as if they were really in Ballybunion and to experience the beauty of the route.
By sharing Jerry’s video - which is up now on the Run Ballybunion Facebook page - to your friends far and wide, organisers are confident of spreading the word and raising as much money as possible for their chosen groups, all the while promoting Ballybunion as a place to visit once restrictions are eased in July.
If you register and run, you can share photos of your chosen route to the event’s Facebook pages at Ballybunion Half-Marathon and 10k race or on Twitter @Run_Ballybunion and Instagram @ kilcoolyshotel.
