“The guidelines have been given and are following best practice and while it will be an adjustment for everyone involved with the services we are confident that practitioners and parents will work together in the best interest of the children.”

She says that among the concerns that have been raised by child-care service across the board with the committee is how best to operate within the new guidelines and to how to open safely. Concerns have also been raised about the financial sustainability of the child-care sector going forward and how to meet the needs of the families within the pod system.

WE covered the end of her month long walking challenge two weeks ago and at the time, 29-year-old Ballybunion woman Antoinette O’Sullivan had raised just a little over €2,400 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Now though, after the dust has settled on her challenge - which saw her walk/run a 100 miles during the month of May and which saw her receive a guard of honour when finishing her final day of walking - Antoinette has officially doubled her target amount of €2,000 with the final tally for her challenge not sitting at the hugely impressive figure of €4,100.

For Antoinette - who was born with a condition known as Apert Syndrome - it was not an east feat, completing the challenge. Apert Syndrome is a genetic disorder characterized by skeletal abnormalities.

This early fusion prevents the skull from growing normally and affects the shape of the head and the face; the feet and hands are affected too.

With her final tally for the challenge now known, Antoinette was understandably delighted with the amount she had managed to raise and this was clearly seen in her final update to about the challenge.

“I’m absolutely delighted. It’s an amazing figure because at the start, it was very slow to get going but I suppose all the videos and promotions and people sharing the fundraiser have really helped it,” she said on Monday.

“I’ve had the initial figure of €2,000 in my head for so long that I keep thinking that’s how much I have raised and my parents keep reminding me that it’s actually €4,100 and that still surprises me. I can’t believe that something I’ve done has raised that much money,” she continued.

“I was literally just talking to the people at Temple Street and they are delighted as well of course. They are really just over the moon,” she said.

Antoinette said that she wants to sign off on the story of the challenge by thanking all of her friends and family for the support.
