HUNDREDS OF SUPPORTERS BRAVE WIND AND RAIN TO HELP RAISE €5,000 FOR FRONTLINE UHK WORKERS

- BY FERGUS DENNEHY

IT might have taken place on the worst day of weather that we’ve had here for quite a few weeks, but even the downpours and thunderstorms could not dampen the spirits of all those who came out in support of the fundraising Ardert Tractor Run on Sunday.

The run was in aid of and in appreciation of all the front-line workers at UHK, and despite the poor weather, it has been revealed that the run has managed to raise €5,000.

Therese Carroll of the Sports and Social Club in UHK thanked all those involved in the day for their efforts.

“On behalf of the sports and social club and the staff of UHK, we would like to thank you the organisers, and every one who braved the bad weather and took part in the Ardfert Tractor Run on Sunday,” Therese said.

“The event was a great success. Despite the weather not being favourable, a huge crowd of over 110 tractors took part and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all attendees and spectators.

“Seeing the convoy of tractors along the route, but especially on the grounds of UHK, was a magnificent sight, and it most definitely lifted the spirits of the staff and patients alike, who lined up to watch the marvellous display of tractors passing through the grounds of the hospital,” she continued.

Going on, they said that they were over the moon to receive such a fantastic amount of money from the run.

“The sports and social club are delighted on behalf of all the staff to receive your very generous donation of €5,000 which was raised on the day. We are blown away by the generosity and kindness shown to us from your community. We endeavour that all staff will reap the benefits of your very thoughtful and generous donation,” she said.

The fundraising tractor run left Ardfert at 2pm and made its way to Fenit and from there to Tralee, up Pembroke Street, Ivy Terrace, Denny Street, Castle Street and Boherbee, before ending up at UHK, where they did a lap of the grounds before going off in the direction of Castleisland.

At the Ballygarry roundabout, they veered left towards the IT and down to the Forge Cross, towards Shanakill and out the Bracker O’Regan Road and back to Ardfert.
