FÉILE 2016

This week’s news in 2016 was dominated by the Under-14 Hurling Féile trip to Tipperary and Limerick. After their terrific performance in the Kerry competition followed by weeks of preparations, the time finally arrived. The boys and their hardworking mentors, along with a convoy of supporters, took to the road on Friday morning and were straight into the action with a match against Ballina (Limerick) in their host village of Cappawhite (Tipperary). They struggled to recover from their travels and never really got a foothold into this first encounter.

They bounced back well, however, to record a fine wire to wire victory against Bredagh (Down). Ballyduff had clearly hit their stride and were up and running. Their final group game took place on Saturday morning against the hosts. This was a quality match between two teams looking to make their mark after a mixed start to the tournament. In the end, the home team pulled away and recorded the win, despite a strong performance from Ballyduff, particularly in the first half after which they had been ahead.

Their reward was a long trip to Ballina for the quarter-final of the shield competition on Saturday afternoon. They won this game with a strong 1 - 6 to 0 - 3 score line, displaying some good scoring touch and strong back play. Unfortunately, the luck of the draw meant they were forced to travel all the way to Clonmel for their semi-final. In the end, the task proved too great and they were finally knocked out by their opponents from Trim.

The fun wasn’t over and the boys returned to Cappawhite for one last night of fun including a disco in the local hall. Ballyduff Coiste na nÓg would like to extend a special word of thanks to all of the host families and club members for their gracious hospitality. The warm welcome and generous support made the experience a memorable one for all players, mentors and supporters.

PITCHES REOPENING

The long wait is nearly over as the day when we open the gates to our members. June 29th is the day and the Club Executive is busy making arrangements for the return. The playing pitches were sanded during the week and are look good so hopefully there will be no further delays. The guidelines published by Croke Park are very strict so we will ask you all to be patient and make the return as easy as possible for everyone. Full details on return to training will be published in next week’s issue and on the Clubs website.

SPLIT THE BUCKET

This week’s winner of Split the Bucket was Eoin Ross, Lacca. The Draw will be held weekly from now on at the GAA Clubhouse on each Friday at 7.00pm. €2 is the entry and remember “if you are not in you can’t win”. Tickets available in the local businesses.
