Kerry’s Wellbeing Walks get their official launch
AS life returns to some semblance of normality, the public is being urged to get outdoors and walking with the launch of a new initiative by Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership (KRSP).
Kerry’s Wellbeing Walks is inviting people of all fitness levels to join local clubs for a series of low-level trail walks.
The walks are commencing week beginning July 13 and will continue for six weeks.
The walks will take place in the Ballymacelligott, Dingle, Killorglin and Sliabh Luachra geographical areas courtesy of the Dingle Hillwalking Club, Ballymac- Glanageenty Ramblers, Laune Mountaineering Club and Sliabh Luachra Hillwalking Club.
The new walking initiative is being developed by Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership as a continuation of Kerry County Council’s “In this Together Kerry” Campaign. Previous campaign elements included the Kerry Step Challenge, In the Bag and Let’s Get Kerry Cycling initiatives and have been launched to support the public during the pandemic.
KRSP have joined forces with local walking clubs for the initiative, which will bring people together to socialise, meet new people, and get active and enjoy nature.
Anyone who is interested in joining the walks can find all information on the website: www.getkerrywalking.ie; and Facebook page, facebook.com/ getkerrywalking.
The cost is €10 plus a small service fee for all six walks. This programme fee includes a neck buff and will aid in rolling out and expanding this initiative across the county.
It’s important to note that people must pre-register as groups sizes are restricted to 15 participants in each location,
“This programme is only possible because of the generous time given by representatives of our local hill walking clubs.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people in the community and perhaps even begin a new adventure,” the Community Walking Programme Facilitator, Askea Calnan, said.
Social distancing will be maintained during the walks.
