FOR many of us, lock-down has been a chance to reset and get back to doing more of the things we enjoy doing. For musician Shane Kennedy – or ‘Pishkin’ as you might know him – this has meant working on creating and releasing new music.

Well it seems like the hard work has paid off for the 21-year-old Farranfore man, whose first official single was released last Friday.

The song is called ‘ Road to your Heart’, and it is currently available to listen to on iTunes, Spotify and streaming platforms worldwide.

Speaking to The Kerryman about the release of the song, Shane said that he was very excited.

“This is the first single that

I’ll have released properly. I had one other song, but it was kind of just thrown out there. But ‘Road to your Heart’ is going to be the first song that I’ve released under the name ‘Pishkin’. It’s a new project, so I’m just going to try it out and we’ll see what happens,” said Shane.

“I’m excited that the song is finally out there for people to listen to. I wouldn’t say that it’s been a long road, but it’s been a journey to get here. It’s given me something to do during the lock-down.

“We’ve just been busy getting a couple of things in order now, and we’re delighted that we were able to throw it out into the world last Friday,” Shane continued.

Shane – a musician from an early age – is already a wellknown performer on the pub scene in Kerry, having regularly performed in bars such as The Blasket in Tralee and Bunker’s Bar in Killorglin.

“I’ve been playing since I was about seven or eight, and I’ve played in places like the Blasket in Tralee or Tatlers and the Fáilte in Killarney. I’ve mainly played covers, but now with this new single, my own single, I’m trying something new,” he said.

As for the story behind his chosen stage name of ‘Pishkin’, he said that his girlfriend calls her cats ‘pishkins’, and he said that this seemed a good enough reason to adopt the name for himself.

To follow Shane’s music, you can head over to his ‘Pishkin’ Facebook page and give it a like, and you will be able to listen to his new song there also.
