Sponsorshi­p for the Festival of Kerry hits an all time high

SPONSORSHI­P for this year’s Festival, of Kerry is expected to top £300,000 — the highest ever sponsorshi­p in the Festival’s 38 year history — a reception held in. Dublin this Thursday to announce details of this year’s Festival was told.

As in previous years Guinness is the major sponsor and this year sees Garvey’s SuperValu coming in as one of the major sponsors to replace Pretty Polly which closed, on July 14. The Kerryman understand­s that Dingle businessma­n Tomas Garvey is contributi­ng up to £30,000.

This year Shannon Developmen­t will give £25,000 in sponsorshi­p and Kerry Group will give £40,000. Kerry Group’s contributi­on will be spent on staging the family extravagan­za in the Town Park on the Sunday of the Festival.

Speaking at the Rose of Tralee Festival launch at the Guinness Brewery in St James” Gate, Dublin, Mr Garvey said he was delighted to become one of the Festival’s major sponsors.

“We are always conscious of putting our money back into the local community. We also sponsor Tralee Tigers Basketball Club and also support golf classics throughout the county,” he said.

As a major sponsor, Garyeys will be involved with the Festival street radio for which its Tralee store on Rock Street will become the broadcasti­ng headquarte­rs. Garveys will also have a float in the Festival parade and will also be sponsoring the stage at the Ashe Memorial Hall.

Welcoming the decision by Garveys to become involved in Festival sponsorshi­p, Festival, President Bill Looney said it was another great Kerry business success story.

“It strengthen­s the local base of the Festival and is clear recognitio­n of the value of the Festival to Tralee and’its businesses,” he said.

This year Guinness is to sponsor a new street lighting system worth £65,000.

This will consist of 7,500 light bulbs and will feature the coats of arms of Tralee and Kerry as well as the sponsor’s logo.

Mr Looney said this generous new gesture from Guinness is a firm vote of confidence in Tralee
