Access to club games is strictly by e-ticket
Kerry GAA to live stream club championship games
THE County Board have confirmed to The Kerryman that all their forthcoming club championship games will be ticket only affairs and that the only place one will be able to obtain a ticket is online.
The e-ticket initiative is designed to be as Covid compliant as possible, restricting the exchange of cash money as well as ensuring that only the permitted number of people are in a venue for any particular game.
Patrons will have to log onto the Kerry GAA website (kerrygaa.ie) to secure their place at the club fixture of their choice and pay by credit or debit card. They will then be issued with a ticket by email, which they can then print and present at the venue for the barcode to be scanned at the gate.
Full details of the e-ticketing programme will be released later this week, but the Board are keen to stress that nobody will gain admittance to a ground without first presenting a ticket obtained online. There is no point arriving at a ground without one as entry will simply not be permitted.
As well as ensuring strict compliance with the number of people allowed at an event under government guidelines, it’s thought that the online scheme will also help facilitate contact tracing efforts in the event of anybody contracting Covid-19.
The Board was also at pains to stress that clubs should put structures in place to facilitate club members – particularly older members – who may not be tech savvy enough (or who simply may not have internet access) in sourcing tickets to their games.
The number of people allowed to games this weekend is only 200 – it is hoped the limit will be raised to 500 from July 20 and Phase Four of the Government’s plans for reopening – but it’s important to note that the 200 figure includes players, management, match day officials and even media in attendance.
Meanwhile, the County Board are preparing this week to announce details of their plans to stream games in the club championships. The Board were due to sign a contract early this week with a company to stream the games and will later agree on commentators for the games which will be broadcast on the Kerry GAA website.
A pricing structure and schedule will be released in due course, but The Kerryman understands that at least one if not two games will be streamed on the first full weekend of club championship action, which a game pencilled in to be streamed on Friday, July 24.
No indication has been given as to which game that will be, but the Senior Club Championship clash between Dr Crokes and Templenoe in Fitzgerald Stadium would appear to be tailor-made to launch the new service.
