Road death victim John ‘Dada’ Walshe is laid to rest
GARDAÍ are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a fatal single vehicle collision which occurred on Main Street in Moyvane at approximately 12.40am last Wednesday, January 6.
The driver, named as John ‘Dada’ Walshe, was the sole occupant of the car. Emergency services were alerted and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr Walshe’s funeral mass took place at St. John’s Church, Ballybunion last Friday, after which he was buried in the Killahenny Cemetery, Ballybunion.
Moyvane Parish Priest, Father Kevin McNamara, said that it was a very sad day for the area and expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
“He was a native of Lisselton. It is a very sad tragedy on the day that is in it. It happened on the 18th anniversary of when three people from the area died in a car accident, it is very poignant for us today,” he said.
“We’re very sad and we are with the family as best we can, helping them and encouraging them,” he continued.
Speaking to The Kerryman this week, Councillor Robert Beasley said that he knows the family well and would have known John well as well.
“First off, I want to offer my condolences to his partner , Elizabeth and his children and his dad and his brother. His dad still lives here in Ballybunion out in Gortnaskehy. They were a grand family and it was an unfortunate accident from what I know,” he said.
“John would have worked me in the golf club here in Ballybunion in my capacity as caddy master. He was a junior caddy in my time and he worked there for a couple of years before he moved on. He had a keen interest in golf,” he said.
“He came from a grand family. His father would always have worked in the local garages and his mother worked inside in town. They’d be people that were always busy at something,” he said.
Predeceased by his mother Nellie and brother Denis Paul, John will be sadly missed by his loving partner Elizabeth, son, daughter, father Denis, brother Larry and his partner Francis, niece Clodagh, extended members of the Walshe and McNamara families and Elizabeth’s family, his many many friends and kind neighbours.
