Kerry students elected ISSU Reps
IT’S a busy start to the new year for two Kerry students as they look forward to taking up new roles.
Fifth-year students Kacper Bogalecki from St Brendan’s College, Killarney, and Elizabeth O’Connor from Presentation Secondary School, Tralee, have been elected as Regional Officers of the Irish Second-Level Students’ Union, the national representative body for second-level students in the Republic of Ireland. Kacper, has been re-elected for a second term, and in the year ahead he will work alongside his fellow Regional Officer, Elizabeth O’Connor, who took up her role on January 1st.
Kacper is passionate about student council engagement and seeks to strengthen student voices in Kerry.
“Students are an integral stakeholder in the education system. Their views must be heard on any issues that may directly impact their lives now and in the future. Today, more than ever, students need clarity around the State exams and issues concerning their school lives’,’ Kacper said.
Elizabeth is also enthusiastic about representing Kerry’s secondary level students. She is committed to her new role and strives to be a voice for students who were previously unheard.
“I will advocate to be the spokesperson for those who may not have the courage to speak out. I will embrace this unique opportunity and I strive to be approachable to all of our students in Kerry,” said Elizabeth.
They will represent over 10,000 second-level students from Kerry on a national level.
